I think you’re talking about a very specific market. You keep talking about bands as if they’re all the same. I an tell you from working weddings, there was a limited amount of bands available in my small city, and the only ones that didn’t suck were the ones that played Irish music and didn’t care about learning new

Right- I mean, we have places that serve decent pizza, but there is no “Boston” style!

I just never heard the term as MC. We just called those people DJs. Then went back to polishing the silver and serving apps.

Yeah- I figured. I just thought that was called a DJ?

You just explained the whole problem with wedding bands- they play disco and/or 70s stuff. There isn’t much in dance music these days that they can play well with instruments- Beyonce etc can’t really be done that way.

Fun! I have seen bands work a couple of times, particularly when it’s a band with a specific ethnicity- I’ve seen Irish, Arabic, and Klezmer bands do REALLY WELL getting people to dance, so Ceilidh would probably work well!

Special ed must be the hardest right now. I teach remedial English, so I’m special ed-adjacent, and the amount of crap the government and charters and so on give you...it makes me glad I never got certified in special ed, because I’m sure that’s what I’d be doing now.

Just...be prepared to not make a difference to every kid. Even in your first year, you’ll make a difference to *someone*, but you’ll never hit 100%, and you have to learn to be OK with that. Also everything JSC said- the union busting is real, and it might make it awful to be a teacher in the near future even in my

As long as she responds well to your boundary line, it’ll probably be OK for your friend. Not respecting drawn lines is INFURIATING (thankfully I say this based on my sister’s MIL, not my own).

I was a bridesmaid for two weddings where the Mother of the Bride just...assumed she was throwing the shower. The MOH in each situation just sort of accepted it- like, “Oh, that’s not my job? But I thought...whatever, tell me where to be.”

Yeah, but that doesn’t save money if you’re used to Gap prices.

YES. The website is totally worth it. The Science of Good Cooking is amazing for learning why you’re doing things, if you care to learn.

Haha yeah I didn’t hire them- I used to work at weddings, and like I said, the best ones were the DJs that figured out how to entertain people from the background. You can’t dance as well do bands, so you never got the same sense of comraderie that people get from dancing.

Why would it have to be a career hit?

Wait, we replaced the dollar with men? I guess I do want to earn 100% of a man, not just part of him! That would be pretty awkward, depending on the part. Good thing I’m 18-35 and don’t have a baby.

Uggh I *hated* bands for weddings. The whole thing became about the band, and the acoustics are always wrong in venues for bands. I also hate MC-type-DJs, because (again) the whole wedding becomes about them. The best ones were DJs that were fast at figuring out the crowd and kept their mouths shut as much as possible.

Is this a fancy term for a DJ that talks a lot? Because I used to work at weddings, and I have never heard of this before.

You would get the option of taking parental leave, too. Not taking it would be akin to not contributing to your 401(k) with matching- you chose not to take the benefit, but that doesn’t mean the company just owes you cash because you didn’t go that route.

So, it sounds like by “opt out option” you mean “extra vacation time,” which is BS, as family leave isn’t vacation time. It’s family leave.
