Haha exactly! It was the mom’s profanity when talking publicly about a case she has that bugged me, too. Like, this is your job; probably it’s a good idea to appear professional when talking to the media?

I guess I’m suprised that the thread, when I got here, was either “They are HEROES!” or trolls calling her a dumb slut. Like, the real situation is not either of those.

Right. I just don’t think it’s going to solve anything for anybody else- *maybe* other upper-class white girls, who don’t generally have a problem in this arena anyway. Sorry if I’ve been unclear- I’ve been working out my thinking on this on the thread, so it’s probably been all over the place.

No, the media campaign is designed to make it look like a SLUT is asking for MONEY for NO REASON.

I get that. It’s probably just that these people rub me the wrong way. Not that the girl was in the play (that sounds awesome), but the fact that the mom couldn’t stop dropping f-bombs when talking about a court case made me raise my eyebrow.

If we printed them alongside each other, then that would be great. We don’t. I read several news sources every day, and I have to seek the actual shit out most of the time.

*alluding*

I didn’t say she seemed petty- I said *it* seems like petty when other people are experiencing real, lifelong consequences for this type of thing every day.

Haha true. I’ve been grumpy about media this week, I guess- this is the second time I’ve gone, “WTF why is this a national story?” this week about something here, but I can see how it got me to click, so mission accomplished!

I should have been more clear:

Yeah, that’s really where my problem comes in. Like, sure, they crossed the line, and should be sued whenever that happens. But why am I reading about this one?

No- I’m just saying that this wasn’t a huge huge deal, when there seem to be lots of huge huge deal things going on. It’s a minor deal, but still a deal.

White by Vera Wang are the only dresses that don’t scratch at David’s (maybe other designer collabs too, but my info is 2 years old). I really really fell for one of their dresses (I looked like a probably-too-literal goddess), but wanted actual silk, so ended up a J Crew (before their prices skyrocketed).

I agree. I’m just...between the fake ID (yes, discovered illegally) and the party and the drinking...she was in a situation that lands other people in jail (wrongfully). I just feel like...sue, yeah, but it’s a minor thing, in the grand scale of police behavior.

I just...fine, but I stand by the idea that this is a lesser lawsuit. It’s not something the police should be doing, but all of the other things they do seem pretty shitty too.

I mean, I agree, and I think she’s fine to sue, and it sucks that the media is treating her this way. At the same time, it just feel so minor compared to the more major stuff- just over the line when the same police force has people going *way* over the line.

I feel like the Cohen brothers could make an excellent movie out of it somehow.

I know- it feels like they’re threatening a kid or something. “You’ll experience logical consequences that only affect my life.”

oooh...I’d never thought of that etymology before.

Considering how specific they can be about looks (some documentary showed a casting director’s office once, and it’s just files and files of headshots), you think they’d get...not a blonde lady.
