It’s true that there are lots of examples of other toxic fan communities. I didn’t intend to say gamers are the worst, just that they are worse than average.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan and have been shocked in recent years at how terrible the fandom there is. So I would probably agree with you. 

The original Monkey Island had black people in it though? Like the fortune teller and Carla the swordfighting trainer? When did these people think Monkey Island was a safe space for white conservatives?

No, I think “gamers” have a higher percentage of toxic fans than other hobbies. The book/movie “Misery” was about a very toxic book fan, but I think there are a lot fewer of those in retrospect.

It’s not a coincidence, and it’s not ironic. The hypocrisy is the whole point, and every person who complains about “cancel culture” or whatever is always the first in line to demand some actor or sports person or journalist get fired because they didn’t wear a flag pin or hinted that slavery existed or said gay…
