It’s true that there are lots of examples of other toxic fan communities. I didn’t intend to say gamers are the worst, just that they are worse than average.

No, I think “gamers” have a higher percentage of toxic fans than other hobbies. The book/movie “Misery” was about a very toxic book fan, but I think there are a lot fewer of those in retrospect.
