Sweet Potato Sam AKA Hemmed Up: Britches Get Stitches

I agree that children need to be shown that opinions of idiots don’t matter, but my experience growing up tells me that those words still hurt. I feel like that lesson should be delivered in a way that respects him as a person and teaches him that there are boundaries to how the parents are willing to treat him, and

Donald Trump doesn’t feel shame. Is that what you want for this child? Shame is a valid emotion. Contrition is a product of introspection. This child should feel shame for disappointing his parents, not because of the opinions of people who don’t care about his well-being and just want to be a part of an internet

You’ve heard of the internet, right? Just in case, the internet is the place where a bunch of hateful people with nothing but time go to be horrible to each other. They do it because they are anonymous and have no need to filter themselves through the social contract.

The reason I see it as shaming is because the internet never forgets. There are myriad ways to be anonymous here for a reason, and there are plenty of stories of internet shit coming back to haunt people.

The problem is not the punishment. The problem is her being extra and including folks that shouldn’t be involved. If she had went around to neighbors offering services, that would be one thing. In this instance, I, being totally unrelated, know about this because she thought it proper to shame him on the internet.

I agree. I feel it reinforces the importance of punishment over the importance of course-correction. Maybe the next time he has a problem, instead of going to his parents for help, he’ll decide that it’s not worth the over-the-top theatrics and take his issues into his own hands. That’s not how parenting works.

Great article! I am inclined to agree, getting representation in Hollywood for POC’s and especially WOC’s has been like “trying to ice-skate uphill.”

I thought he looked familiar...

Remember when teen Jesus opened up a truck-load of whoop-ass when he saw foul shit in the temple? I can’t find the words to describe the reckoning owed in this instance. There’s not a place in hell hot enough for these fuckers.

Stay classy, Texas. You may eventually Out-Florida Florida, but you’ll never be Alabama.

So I assume he didn’t get fucked up, though. Did they at least throw the asshole out? If not, points for style, but his score will suffer for weak follow-through.

Between mass shootings of increasing frequency and this... yeah, it seems that the author of that article may well be proven right.

I agree. I was addressing the usual deflection of “She should have fought back, or said no.” A lot of people neglect the fact that abusers try to control the situation so that it’s not an option. I have unfortunately heard this “defense” very often, even from women.

They know the difference. It’s just a lot easier to get idiots fired up if you pretend it’s an assault on an unrelated golden calf, though.

That’s because you don’t, I don’t, even another woman can’t just arbitrarily say what’s right for all women. But you are right, men have absolutely no grounds to dictate what a woman can do with their own body.
