I also think a lot of their more progressive women customers are somewhat placated by the "real people" myth - it makes the ads seem less degrading.

The previous post said she had already passed the 20000 nautical mile mark and had only 1000 miles to go. Maybe Rob Kothe is full of crap?
@queenieinmanhattan: Transformers 2 - a colossal bag of crap. So many excessive, worthless action movies, and this guy has to pick on the "girlies".
I just watched all three videos again, Human Nature, Telephone, and Not Myself Tonight. I'm not sure where the comparisons are coming from. None of them are the first to use fetish imagery. And Hortense is spot on with her identification of sources: Metropolis, Missing Persons, etc. None of this stuff is new.
@HerdingCats: Yes, it's really civility that suffers most when people communicate online.
This post is interesting to see on a feminist website focused on celebrity. If it were on another blog I'd almost say it was a dig at Jezebel. Oh, wait, it was originally on another blog. Interesting....
@randomnessish: Hate the Palins, but I agree that she did a good thing. I think it showed a lot of character to take responsibility for her actions and her image - a lot more character than her mom has ever displayed.
This build-up to the reveal makes me suspicious. Whoever this is, I wouldn't be surprised if their identity wasn't any big surprise.
@teenypanini09: yes!
@Hamsterpants: Fingers crossed.
The focus on the beads at the beginning of this post really threw me off. Are we just looking for things to criticize? Just because something is in a photo shoot doesn't mean it's coiled around his neck when he sleeps at night. Her other kid made it for the baby. It has meaning for her, and having it in the photos is…
@randomnessish: Huh? I thought the ad addressed the consequences of unplanned pregnancies - not teens who get pregnant on purpose. I guess it could apply to both. Still, it's not just children living in trailers with alcoholic/pedophile parents that shouldn't be having babies. It's probably not a good idea for anyone…
@Arianne: I'm off the lady mags as well. Crappy and boring, indeed.
@partyannamal: Did you see the captions to the right? Maybe it's a page loading issue, but each image should have a description that includes what date the image is from.
@gigi.laroux007: So many of the photos of me from this era show me in the big sweater and black leggings. I forgot what a huge trend it was. Yes, we did first.
I think The Boston Channel got it wrong, as did Jezebel. This isn't an issue of chivalry just because the people involved were of the opposite sex. Wouldn't it be just as rude for a woman to stand by and watch people miss the elevator when all she'd have to do is push a button?
@rixatrix: while I agree with your first point, on the second one...not so much. She didn't say, "showing plus-size is not really healthy", at least not according to your own quote. What she said is "it's not really physically healthy". And the "it's" in that sentence is clearly a substitute for "plus-sized".…
@sadie-panic: That's crazy - I must be your mom's age. To think I could have a kid old enough to be a Jezzie!
@sadie-panic: Do you remember "thights"? I wonder if they still make them. They were thigh-high tights that had elastic tops so you didn't need garters. They were very popular in Seattle in the mid-late 90's. I don't know if they still make them, but they were great in that you didn't get hot-crotch. You did have to…
@Svenskasweetie: Me, too! Seriously - who are those two? Are there more sisters, or are those people who work in the shop?
