I think that’s what the JLTV was tested to as well, those numbers sound familiar.

Guy I work with used to be a powertrain engineer with Oshkosh, specifically on this JLTV. I think he said power was about 350/600, certainly down rated from the consumer trucks.

Yay for Oshkosh winning another bid. I’m local to the area and considered pursuing an engineering career there, but was warned of mismanagement and super demanding work schedules. Might not be the best company to work for, but contracts like this still bring in lots of jobs and income to the Fox Valley.

But you should definitely buy a used car with every available option, right? The first owner eats the depreciation, you enjoy the goodies. Both my ‘06 Mazda3 S GT and my wife’s ‘12 Focus Titanium have the “everything but the automatic” box ticked. No ragrats!

I was just thinking the opposite as you in reading Andrew’s column: I live 10 miles from the nearest city. Bicycling to work ain’t gonna happen. If/when I get into motorcycles, I’ll start on my buddy’s manual four wheeler, then find a dirtbike to tool around on, then take a class.

Buddy of mine has two TDI Golfs. One slow as all hell stock auto, one mildly entertaining tuned manual.Collectively they’re nearing 700k miles. Besides the awful fit and finish of the interior, they ain’t bad.
