Awaiting written dissenting opinion of the minority

The color is actually the only good thing about this car

The color and those goofy bumper bars in front, but yeah, not like a copy of an early ‘vette but lots of similarities

At $60k+ I’d much rather buy... I’m gonna say it.

I offered $350 and a Playstation 4. Haven’t heard back yet, but am hopeful.

I NP’d this beast too. It’s an interesting build with intelligent choices made. I’m curious as to what donated those suspension bits; I’m presuming that, as dudeman’s a Corvair fan and it’s an IRS, a second-gen that made the sacrifice. I’m not 100% sure, though, as Beetle IRS conversion kits are easily obtained as

140HP Corvair engined Beetle kit car. I really like that there are numerous updates to the chassis, and the engine body and interior all look very nice. But I wouldn’t even know what to look for in a PPI. I like it, and I would NP easily at $5K. But I really have no idea what this is worth, and I’m not interested

Thank you for writing this article. I am a huge fan of fast European Fords. They are under-appreciated and continue to be more so as they get older. Just seeing this article delighted me.

Old cars are just better these days.

Amazing article and photos William, thanks! Breathtaking car, great colour, great presence . . . the owner is truly generous to share it with us all!

Someone has one somewhere in Georgia. I will see it maybe once every 2 years and always just start screaming and frothing at the mouth. I’m almost never with someone who even understands why I’m losing it. They’re always like hmm “THAT’s cool?”

The spoiler is known as a whale tail in the UK, most of the 3dr Sierra Cosworths had them too.

If it’s a US-market Spit, that’s because it’s the least powerful Spitfire ever made. The Mk.III cars are much quicker than Federal 1500s. The 1300 cc engine also revs much more happily than the 1500. That said, you can get 80+ lb-ft out of a mild 1500 build - you’ll never see that from a 1300.

My license is very safe no matter how hard I hoon my ‘74 Spitfire - and mine has 50%+ more hp than stock.

My take: “But my 1974 Triumph Spitfire? I can wring that thing out, have a hell of a lot of fun for a lot of effort....at 40mph!!

Having come of age in the mid-1980s, and buying my first “high performance” vehicle (a 1989 5-speed grey-with-red-interior Mustang GT) in 1991, the 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds felt rocket-ship insane.  Just because a 2020 Camry will walk it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t quick.

Probably, but this is the Internet, so uncontrollable anger is the correct response to all views that don’t adhere to your point of view. As such, AGGGGHGH! THE COSSIE AINT A GORRAM CROSSOVER!

You shouldn’t have brought up the Sapphire Cosworth. I’m going to have to swoon over it for the next twelve hours. What a handsome set of wheels, and yes, those wheels...

I’m thinking it’s due to the rear quarters being flared, that give it that appearance.

I am so tired of hearing about Tesla. Everything about it is anti-car, and elitist and smug AF. Just gag me with a spoon
