You just finished saying we “lost” a car that we did get (Kizashi) and we “would never get” one we didn’t (Jimny). In the context of your own previous sentences, it’s absolutely reasonable to read “Lost the Swift” the same way I read “Lost the Kizashi”

Either way, I’m not being as serious as you seem to have taken it.

“It meant we lost the Kizashi, a perfectly fine compact sedan, and it meant we would never get the Jimny, a perfectly adorable compact off-roader. But it also meant we lost the Swift, a smart and simple, fairly sporty hatchback.”

You know they didn’t sell that here, right? The last Swift we got was in the 90s. We

I’m impressed nobody suggested a car that’s not CA legal, as is usually the case in these.

Go to New England. The manuals held on for a bit longer there; I’ve seen tons of Escapes and Vues with manuals. They’re probably rust buckets by this point though.

If I based my world view on comment section opinions I’d be living in a bunker by now.

Honestly, at this point in history, I’m just glad it’s not grey, white, silver, or black.

It’s pretty cool, but I’d have to see a zoomed out side view. That’s where these paintjobs tend to get weird looking.

Maybe I’ve had my head in the sand, but I don’t know anyone who actually owns a Tesla that’s annoying about it. Most of the people who are obsessed with or hate them (or the company) don’t own one.

I agree. It’s a half-assed job and even the colors they picked are hideous.

Make an offer for 60% of the coat’s value?

Oh I have no doubt that most people would find the Benz to be adequate and not “arduous.” My grandma’s 22RE automatic Toyota pickup? THAT thing was arduous. Couldn’t hold 40 going up a hill under full throttle.

But I guess the standards for “quick” have changed.

Maybe it’s the way it delivers the power more than the stats. 0-60 numbers don’t always tell the whole story about how a car feels. 30-50 and 50-70 acceleration is a much more usable figure for everyday driving, especially when you’re talking about a turbo’d small displacement engine.

As a San Diego resident I can vouch for the largely rust-free used car selection. Those old Discos are beasts indeed.

Oooh, manual Disco! I love those. Agree about the commute. In a perfect world, I’d only drive for fun. Better for the planet too!

Makes sense. I just saw the word “tiny” used to describe the car and was baffled. I suppose it does get pretty tiny when you’re dealing with those big-ass seats.

I’ve seen this argument come up quite a few times in these “What car should I buy” things, because the GTI is a common answer.

I’ve seen people say it’s got plenty of space, and I’ve seen people say it’s way too small. I honestly don’t know who to believe, but generally speaking the people who say it’s fine are people

On what planet is a GTI a tiny car? I’m 6'2" and can comfortably sit behind my own seating position in my “tiny” car.

My Miata, on the other hand...

Manuals make commuting less boring, and despite what you may have heard, they’re really not that bad in traffic. I live in SoCal and both my cars are manuals, one’s got a clutch like a leg press. You just adapt your driving style a bit.

When the car in front of you inches forward, don’t immediately follow. Wait and

Maybe if it had been parked near the East German embassy, lol

Oops, my mistake. I must have been thinking of a different publication. I know the California was noted for being revealed in the US but won’t be sold here. I think a few magazines got their hands on them.
