I am a monarchist solely because it sucks the glamour away from government, and I think that’s very important for preventing dictatorships from forming. I don’t care who the monarch is, or if it’s hereditary or some other system, but it makes things weirdly more functional to separate head of state functionality from

Seriously. He. Did. Not. Write. This.

Plus “levelling up” is actually a post in the PM’s cabinet. There is a Secretary of State of Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities which is the department he or she (it’s Gove - a dude RN) is in charge of the “levelling up ministry” as it is called.

Right, let’s start.

Which makes me question how much of this is an emotional response, akin to how GM kept trying to recreate products Opel had already made better versions of throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Ford will be ceding a huge portion of the market, because customers won’t abandon Euro vans, they’ll abandon Ford. There’s a

I worked a professional job in London for over a decade, and average starting wages were 16-18k, middle- management were on 30-50k, administrative assistants, were somewhere between the two. so this doesn’t seem too out of whack, to be honest. One thing that makes a massive difference is that the taxes are lower and

I borrowed a friend’s Fiat Punto (64 HP, if I recall correctly) and it had no problem driving 150km/h on the A5. Was it flat out? Yes. But it was fine. Up to 130 it was completely fine.

Not nearly enough light cars on this side of the pond. Americans need 4000lbs to feel “safe”, and 300hp so they can only every use 1/2 of it.

If you drove the sub-100 HP cars you would find that it is in fact, plenty of power for civilized driving.

It is laughable that Americans all feel like they “need” 200+ HP just to prevent holding up the absurdly slow-moving traffic of the US.

Chinese companies have a lot of former Euro designers working for them now. Hyundai/Kia are the same way. I just don’t think the Japanese marques care, they sell well enough and they’re not prone to soliciting outside stylistic help these days. The tie-ups with the Italian design houses are long dead.

You think that that “potato shipment” might have been from Europe perhaps? Yeah, same here, but a bit of research indicates that NZ imports some potato products (fries, hash browns etc) but not raw potatoes. Not sure what this story is about now.

When I was renting cars in France during the 2002-2009 time frame I was always quite content with Renault Clios and rather liked them. Then there was the time Hertz decided they liked me so they gave me a Laguna. I appreciate the sentiment but that extra size made parking so much more difficult, especially in those

Hi... Vancouver based claims person here.

I don’t even how to order a Taxi, and when I called last time, decades ago, nobody showed up and I spent 2 hours waiting. Bus was faster

I can see that in rural, although here in the states it’s a mix. Some places are so rural that there are no taxi services close (so any ride will be expensive). Sometimes there are rideshare apps, sometimes not.

Cab would be much cheaper - the question is if you’d be able to get one.

Well, depending on the time of day it could change, but not like Uber. There is a base rate of $3.25 and an additional $2.25 per mile. If there is no traffic, or stops, the ride would come out to under $15 for a five mile ride. If traffic was heavy, there is a stand and wait fee that comes to $20 every hour the meter

RE: the Uber prices. How much would a taxi cost for that five miles?

It’s nearly impossible to get a taxi in downtown Chicago, there’s so few compared to a few days ago. In a neighborhood, they’re just non-existent.
