I’m less concerned about people being driven to Trump and more about people getting un-inspired to get out and vote.

There is a lot more to that then you realize. Fear really IS much easier to sustain - look at the fact that crime and murder rates are near their lowest point since they began to be measured in the mid-20th century, and yet if you flip on Faux News, an MS-13 member is probably outside your home RIGHT NOW.

Whereas if

Republican strategists understand what motivates people (re: white people) to vote. It’s fear. Hope is nice, and anger can be extraordinarily motivating but is temporary and depends on constant refueling - both hope and anger often lead to burnout and apathy. Neither are how the modern Republican ideology was built.

Well “winning” is very important to them, not so much what they win, how they win or what they have to do to get it.

I picture him at the end of the interview shaking a container of Tic Tacs at her.

the sad thing is that i could see him making this defense and it being somewhat believable.  he would be like “i do many, many transactions and business every day.  i can’t keep track of it all!”

I think people are overlooking what Trump highlights in his dumb comments. This money, per Cohen, came out of Trump Org as a 400k payment to Cohen.

I cried at 10 years of pence. :(

It’s hard to tell what percentage of the time he’s being bad a lying and what percentage he’s just being a total shithead. I think most of the time he just doesn’t know what he’s saying.

There is truth in what Trump speaks, you just need this handy dandy translator to get what’s really going on:

It’s about like this was when Nixon started to fall but it still took time:

Likely because he’s never been held to account for his lies.

I liken it to a child who is never seriously reprimanded or punished for misbehavior; over time, they come to realize that while their parents might give them a stern look, or raise their voice a little, no consequence of any real weight is forthcoming—and so

Today on Fox News: Man Who Can’t Read Talks To Woman Who Thinks Japan Was Communist

Man, for someone who lies all the time, he’s really fucking bad at it.

if the last couple years have taught us anything, it’s that...

Of course, it’s hard to imagine how Trump could simultaneously have made the payment himself and not known about it.

...Especially since this is exactly what women are conditioned to do AUTOMATICALLY. If you give a woman a compliment and she doesn’t deflect it somehow, or if you congratulate her on an accomplishment and she doesn’t immediately give credit to someone else, then she risks being classified as a tone-deaf, stuck-up,

Im reminded of a party I was at recently where a small group of us were drunkingly talking pop culture, and this one guy kept dismissing or argueing against what this random lady said, and then after I would repeat part of what she said to agree with her and want to hear more and he would suddenly agree with me.

You’ve got the right idea, but men are heavily socialized and conditioned to believe that their individual success and accolades are their own. They’re not sharing credit out of selfishness; they really do believe they’re the only ones who accomplished X even when it’s glaringly obvious that that isn’t true.

Really interesting story, and definitely shows the ways in which the “Great Man” narrative (i.e., the idea that social change occurs through one or two individuals alone) can so easily erase the impact of women.
