Considering that many of these supplements are for water soluble vitamins and other compounds that the body will simply get rid of if they are present in excess of what it needs, I can't really find the fact that they're a waste of money surprising.
I did read Lizardo's comment already. The thing is, we don't know for sure that it is safe, so if there are no benefits what's the point? Microbial resistance is only one of the problems that could possibly be caused by increasing the concentration of the chemicals contained in these soaps. There may be others, and we…
I suppose the "magic soaps" lie more, but the antimicrobial soap industry is huge, while magic soaps... I'd never heard of before. The FDA is not all over Bronner's ass because Bronner's soaps are not a massive industry that might possibly be contributing to what will be the biggest public health problem in the near…
Claiming your products do X or Y when they do not is not labeling them accurately. It's lying.
Part of the point of having the FDA (and similar agencies across the world) is to stop salesmen from selling snake oil. This is basically snake oil. The FDA should stop it, and more importantly, should have the power to stop the sale or force a change in the marketing tactics of these products.
Yes please. Then I wouldn't have to feel guilty about working only 5-6 hours/day.
Agreed with raiju. We're already entering the post-antibiotic era and people running around using this is not helping.
I dunno, what I see most as lies and generalizations from "hippie" people is always vaccine related.
Hello and thanks for answering (some of) our questions!
I don't know how old you are, but I see this early disregard a lot in people of my parents' generation (50ish). Some of my older family members still are deniers, actually.
It isn't even just toys anymore. I came home for the holidays and found a new section in my parents' newspaper, called Pink! and aimed (of course) at women. Not even girls, women.
I was the opposite! I wanted a creepy crawlers set sooo bad but me and my sisters got an Easy Bake Oven instead. I remember thinking "What is this shit I can't scare my mum or cousins with it!"
While I find the hippie-environmentalist comment weird, I commend you on accepting that it exists even if you don't want to.
Cordelia Fine wrote a good article outlinign some of the problems with this study here: https://theconversation.com/new-insights-i…
I'm aware of that. Scientists have found problems with this paper since it was published, so I'm not sure how this proves your point.
She's not a scientist, nor does she have actual data to twist. She makes shit up. That cannot be solved with better sensors.
Yes, I am assuming that in general the data will not be twisted to fit the conclusion - that's how science works, someone would call it out.
Oh come on, you think they don't account for that? They put sensors where high levels of pollutants are emitted and then use models to calculate downstream concentrations, they don't just take the value there and use it for the entire area. That's what extrapolate means.
