They should just be grateful if he washes his hands.

He must be furious that he keeps trying to kill Cora and it just fails. Me too, Clarkson. Me too.

Oh, I don't feel harangued. I would never INSIST that people like Mary, but I see complexity in her. I also think that she's been accountable for her biggest action—the death of Pamuk—in the sense that she is currently ~27 and unmarried, with ehr only prospect a total cretin. Likewise, she's not particularly happy

Dr. Clarkson sort of became my favorite secondary character this season. Every interaction he has with the Crawley's is laced with a heavy dose of "I have to deal with your shit AGAIN?" I wouldn't be surprised if he's trying to secretly kill them off just so he never has to talk to them.

I definitely like Mary. I think all the Crawley sisters are likable and play in different aspects of how one deals with feeling trapped in a life you'd be foolish to escape, but would love to leave.

I think that's a fairly good read on Edith, who is probably the most tragic rich character on the show, really. She wants to feel useful and liked because she doesn't get that from her own family basically ever.

@avclub-40b108e227495eb1e7f1670fddc503f4:disqus I think the answer is: 1) Because it's an enormous house and that way everyone will know it's dinner time and 2) why the hell WOULDN'T you have a dinner gong?

There is definitely smiling and flirting in the first season, which makes Season 2 political lectures courtship mire annoying. It's not that the actors are incapable of chemistry, it's that they've been saddled with the last sexy dialogue and plot ever.

I think Melody is a bit too harsh re: Bay—I agree with some of her points, but I think it'd be better for Emmett to learn them himself, rather than be nagged about them. However, I don't think it took harsh to make the kid who got arrested pay (some) of his own fine. That's sort of the point. And when I realized I

I like the new lawyer, but I'd be a little wary about anyone so willing to rape Joan…

To be fair, they WERE doing that last season and apparently have dropped it in favor of…not, I guess. For no reason. Because woods look cooler?

I'm a bit Team Branson, so I can see you're side, but it's still a dick thing to say. I think season 2's generally packed to the gills episodes means that you lose chances to see any sort of apologize, making up between those two.

"I think O'Brien and Thomas are drawn together because they mutually think they're better than everyone around them while being terribly insecure at the same time, especially her."
I think this hits the nail on the head, though I think it's way more about being insecure than really thinking you're better. I describe

Bias alert: I am a middle child (though of two brothers) and I recognize that colors some of my view of Edith. But besides jealousy, I also get the sense that Mary doesn't exactly go out of her way to be nice to Edith—not exactly reputation-ruining stuff like what Edith did in first season, but certainly more than

Also this! I have also never been to an Deaf/ASL space that hasn't been voice-off. It forces you to learn the language a lot faster (and better).

I just rewatched that scene and for the record, it looks like all Melody signs is "SORRY OTHER NIGHT" or "I'm sorry about the other night". But YES on the aggravation.

In things that irrationally annoy me, this week it's that Bay has STILL not learned the correct signs for "don't know" or "ask". Considering she uses the former all the time you think she would have learned the correct, easier version.

Ooo, interesting, I've been wondering how the captioning is on this show.

Reading lips is actually easier for hearing people, because we know how to connect a mouth movement to a sound that we've heard before—which is why you can mouth things to your friends and have them understand you. It's harder for a deaf person who has never heard the sound before and so has nothing to connect it to.

I really agree with the last paragraph. I especially like that they both dislike each other for essentially the same "stealing my people" reason. It's actually really logical.
