He’s impressed by the fact that it seems profitable and has some neat electronics. He also thinks it has shitty ‘90s Kia build quality. He’s not “eating crow” about the quality, he’s just saying they managed to make it profitable. It’s still poorly made.

In fairness, protectionism is not historically a right wing thing, or at least the intellectual branch of conservatives has been a stronger proponent of free trade than most others in politics.

I liked how Magnussen was proud of his 7th starting grid position as

He’s fast but personalty wise a total piece for shit.

Just think a few days back, Vettel and Bottas in France, without the help of two SCs even

“Things definitely fell his way, though, as he’d started the race on a set of Medium tires and he managed to make them work much longer than the competition.”

He started on pole and fucked up

That was also exciting to watch!

It is getting harder and harder to give him the benefit of the doubt as each season wears on.

I’m evidently in the minority here, but that was a great race. It had plenty of drama, strategy, overtaking... what else could you ask for? Of course F1 has problems, but they put on a terrific show today. The last 10 laps were as fun as it gets in F1.

“That opening lap was exciting, but watching Hamilton work his way back up through the field to finish on the podium was a rollicking good time.”

Let’s make it about Lewis even when he doesn’t win.

BOP was handled reasonably well in this race. Aston Martin and Corvette got shafted a little bit, but all of the manufacturers were capable of lap times within a few percentage points of each other.

Basically the race was decided from about hour four when the pink pig and the Dempsey car caught a huge break with a

No clue on the 2.7T, but the 2.0T:

I don’t poo-poo these things anymore because all I heard was 300+hp turbo engine in a RWD configuration will be available in junkyards in the future. This bodes well for crazy engine swap plans

Maybe, depends on the situation. Cruising on the highway steady state when you already have momentum to the point where cylinders deactivate you would be using less fuel.

Uh have you seen how clever these cheats are?

This year, NASCAR started mandating spec pit-guns. The big teams didn’t like that because they already spent millions developing super fast and super expensive pit guns. So they started quietly protesting the new rule by using unapproved gasses to power the pit-guns. The

There’s an art to the tiny box the crews have to work in. Seeing small details like oil tank location (Gibbs at the end of 2017 were raising them back up, opposite of all the other teams), quarter panel shape, intentionally failing window braces, etc. etc. etc. Currently I think the Truck Series is the funnest

There’s an argument to be made that it takes a more creative and talented engineer to find a solution in a tightly regulated field than it does in a fully open one. Based on the engineers that I know in the field (both Nascar specifically, and motorsports in general), they’re pretty damned good.

Other auto companies spend tons of money but they actually, you know, MAKE money from that spending, which Tesla has yet to do. IDK if the Bloomberg ticker offsets the spend with revenue (it is a fascinating thing to watch the number climb while you read the story)
