Mindy Kaling has an chapter on this in her first book. Basically every song on Graceland makes her cry because it takes her back to being a kid on a road trip with her parents. I think it's a generational thing. (Feel the same way about the TW album too btw. "End of the Line" especially.)

Hey what about Hunchback of Notre Dame? If I recall correctly the AV Club 1996 review was just some satirical marketing bullshit and an invitation for the reader to shoot themselves in the head. Sort of funny, but the movie is good enough to merit a serious review. Still think that was a dick move.

A lot of stuff on his reading list (especially the humor stuff) is pretty solid and unobjectionable.

Yeah. It's weird how there seems to be an uptick in gay jokes when going from MST3K to Rifftrax when MST3K is from an older era.

He's worked with a ton of lefties though, and a big chunk of the political humor of the show leaned to the left. It didn't affect his work, which speaks well of him, I think.
