It’s important to distinguish what “baby” actually means to these cars.

Clutches have lasted up to 80k miles and beyond on Ferrari F1 boxes.

The Vette has always been an excellent sports car and a legitimate challenger to exotic cars at < half price, but that was still hilarious.

You can certainly do that, but I don’t think the market for tampered cars is that strong in the exotic segment.  It’s definitely worth trying if you’re in the market and mechanically inclined.

Yeah, I have an as—err, opinion too :)

IMO I would say they are not worlds beyond other European cars. It’s a bit of a stretch to say that they’re actually on the same level of maintenance costs.

Wait til you hear an F355.

The more craftsmanship there is, the more upkeep is required. These are not mutually exclusive things.

I personally prefer the Scuderia, but those are priced accordingly.  Ugh.  Wish I could afford one.

As it was in 2005, so it is today and so it was in 1985.

As I learned, owning a used Ferrari means being on first-name basis with the owner of Ricambi America. Great fun, also spent enough money there to buy a nice whole car down at my local used car row.  And that’s not counting the labour, because I don’t have tools or space to DIY.

Definitely, I had middling luck with my 355 F1 (2014-2018, I put 10k miles on it) and the most surprising part of that was that the F1 contributed to none of the various maintenance issues on my car.

+1. 355 F1 alum here. Put little to no wear on my clutch in 4 years and 10k miles.

Clutch replacement does not require engine drop.

The engine is not running, so the CEL would be on as in any car.

If I’m into a car for $97,500, I’m looking at an F430.  Not a Gallardo, not a Vette, not a 997 GT3 with a stick.

What’s wrong with budgeting for the expected maintenance items, and selling the car at minimal depreciation loss? Isn’t that sort of the same thing as buying a new exotic car and taking a bath on resale when you’re tired of it?

30k or five years. Most likely five years :)

I never understood that mindset. If you’re buying a Ferrari to mask your insecurity, you had better be a gazillionaire because it WILL hurt and you WILL regret it.

If you’re buying a Ferrari or any exotic car to flex on a budget, you’re in for a world of financial hurt and you deserve what’s coming.
