Worth noting that Whedon's point here wasn't, "Boo hoo, Avengers didn't pay me enough." He was telling a story about talking with a business-guy classmate of his from Wesleyan who dismissed Dr. Horrible, at the time, as a pointless, no-money venture. And now is waving it in his face.

With merchandise, DVD sales, whatever the CW paid to air it a few years ago, all over the course of 7 years? I don't think 5 million is such a crazy number, considering the continued passion of its fanbase (and the fact that everyone involved has only gotten more famous since then).

And part of what makes him so interesting to me is that very fact, that he isn't Bob Dylan. It's a film largely about those artists who work really hard at their craft, who put everything they have and more into this dream, but just aren't ever going to hit that next level of success. And then tying that into the

Are you also finally catching up with this show now that it's hit Netflix?

it’s about “a mild-mannered teacher” who “is challenged to a fist fight by a much tougher colleague”

And let's not forget his turn in Inside Llewyn Davis! A classic Coen character.

Thanks for this—so many showtimes at the Atlantic Times Square. Will definitely catch it this week.

Yeah, I'll admit I kind of assumed this show was bad just based an annoying-ish name and the fact that I hated Mortimer's Newsroom character. But this is a pretty convincing article.

Yeah, at the time I was on the opposite side — I thought the list was deserving of ridicule, especially given the choices and how dumb some of the "connections" were.

And, according to Fuller, is largely responsible for the fantastic visuals in the show, having directed pilot and set the tone for the series.

I actually kind of am glad?

No way, One Headlight is equal in quality to any of Fastball's hits, or the other assorted 90s standards like Fuel, Bush. I absolutely believe the Wallflowers would've been fine, albeit with a tougher row to hoe.

And the weirdly variable quality of the clips. Like, I get why the Crossfire one might look different, but you would think you could find a consistent source for all of the ones from the actual Daily Show. Some of these are just a step removed from being recorded in portrait orientation off someone's TV.

I dunno, I think Clint's point is right on. Nobody's talking about ratings right now (in this discussion on the AVC, I mean—I'm sure lots of people are talking about ratings right now somewhere). Colbert is taking over a show that's part of a long-running tradition. Letterman was fantastic and left a big cultural

I'm starting to get more and more behind the idea that people are taking opportunities to show offense, now. I'm not even on the Seinfeld, everything-is-too-PC!! train, but this is an absurd level of pearl-clutching. Does anybody think genocide is going to be taken less seriously because of a dumb celebrity's dumb

Can we talk about Less Than Kind here? That's a very charming show, and the only reason I own a Weakerthans album—though it's a very good album!

I do find it weird, less that the writer would prefer the movie—which I disagree with, but find somewhat reasonable—and more that it's put out there as if that's the common cultural assumption, despite the book's Pulitzer and general renown.

I kept rereading this, thinking it was a joke, but yeah, my bad.

This comes only a day after Bounce TV (finally) pulled its Cosby reruns and Disney World (finally) took down its Bill Cosby bust, both of which are things that also should’ve happened already.
