I prefer mezcal to tequila. The thing is, when it's good, it's amazing, but when it's bad, it's worse than paint thinner. The worst part is that packaging is no indication of quality—one of best mezcals I've had came out of plastic bottle but I've had vile stuff out of glass bottles with nice label art.
