The first example I thought of was J.K. Simmons who played neo-Nazi Vernon Schillinger on Oz. There were countless scenes where he had to play the perpetrator of humiliation and violence on other actors. 

Ive noticed that weird trend.  The guy playing the absolute dogshit asshole character is really nice, and the really upbeat cheery host is awful.  Its not always like that but there are quite a few examples of it.

If you couldn’t make sense of “Tony finds guy in bed with this girlfriend, proceeds to beat the crap out of him” regardless of his underwear status, I don’t know what to tell you.
