Anti-Piracy is not about some schmuck working 80 hours a week, it’s about maximizing return on investment for the publisher. The schmuck will get paid regardless. If you think that paying for the content will promote more better games being made, then that’s your reason for not pirating, but theft has nothing to do

I’m not saying that we don’t need copyright law. I’ve said repeatedly that I do support copyright protection. I do that by paying for content, not by feeling a moral compulsion to pay for content in every situation. It’s not stealing, it’s copying. Contract law guarantees payment for service agreements, as copyright

I see what you’re saying but it seems like you don’t see a difference between physical property and intellectual property. They are certainly not the same, for various reasons I’ve already pointed out, and it’s also worth noting that too strong of IP rights can actually slow down creation because powerful IP owners

The Mona Lisa was created well before copyright law was invented. Creators will create. The reason I’m talking about the intellectual things is because you are saying that copying is stealing out of the hands of those who worked to make the game. In my opinion that’s not true, it’s depriving them of an entitlement

So you made the choice forego a refund policyin exchange for a lower up front cost. Consequences.

Witcher 3 just came outrecently and is eligible for Steam refund. I don’t know about GoG but maybe. It was like less than 2 months ago wasn’t it?

Those carts are fucked up and you shouldn’t buy them. They do not have the approval of the translators (I say that with 100% confidence) and they destroy old game carts to make them. If you would like to play an old game on real hardware, most fan translators would recommend a flash cart.

Haha. CK2 ruined the Civilization series for me. Whenever I try to play Civ it’s like playing checkers.

Fuck Ubisoft!

I pirate because only suckers pay retail. Someone has to pay the bills, but it doesn’t have to be me.

Good point and actually a boycott is not even that. Boycotting is an organized group activity. Not buying game and playing it anyway is “voting with your wallet,” but it’s not voting for what they think, it’s voting for more DRM.

All these people feeling they have the moral high ground because they paid $5 for Fallout 3 instead of pirating (assuming they’re not lying) annoy me. Either creators are entitled to $60 for their AAA game or they are not. If you believe a game is worth $60 but you paid $5 then you got it literally for a steal. I

Steam refunds...

Your English is good.

Yeah it’s almost like boycotting has a meaning beyond “Not paying for something”

You and I had some disagreements in a thread many months ago on these issues. This was very well thought out.

Well said. #FOMO

Technically, it does not fall under the private backup exception. Morally, there is little to no difference and it seems completely fair.

Your comment is a shining star amongst a sea of imbecilic drivel

I followed you up until your exception. Games out of circulation can be acquired, and games out of the country can be imported. Your exception is no different than a pirate who makes a personal rule that he won’t keep a game more than 30 days, or that he won’t pirate on Sundays. Either you and him are equally moral or
