Holy shit, I guess I purposefully blanked Fields from my memory after his game 2 blunder. Thanks for reminding me.

Agreed. But that Yankees team sure could catch fire at home. They just couldn’t sustain it on the road, and who can blame them? I haven’t seen a team feed of its home crowd as much as the Astros have in a long time.

That lineup is the definition of a meat-grinder. Walking batters in front of even some of the middle-to-bottom of their order would get any manager second-guessing.

I don’t disagree. As celebrated as our relief corps has been, bullpenning has sucked the life and energy out of it. Literally.

As a Dodgers fan, I’m obviously biased, but I too am not a fan of this “slippery ball” business. I know that HRs and scoring are fun, but not being able to see some of the best pitchers on the planet throw a proper slider make it seem like they’re using the equivalent of bumper lanes in bowling.

By that point, it was Cingrani, Stripling, Jansen, and McCarthy. All of them ended up being used, with the exception of McCarthy, whom I presume Roberts was saving for long, end-game relief if it went extras.

I don’t disagree with the general notion, but I just don’t know who else Roberts puts in in that situation for a full inning. Cingrani? He ended up coming in right after to clean up the mess. Stripling? He was the bridge to Kenley, and maybe he would have been the more reasonable option to soak up innings considering

I want to die.

I’m not arguing whether this will or won’t work, but in an age where the front office drives a lot of the decisions, maybe they just wanted a yes-man with good locker room chemistry, a la the Dodgers’ Dave Roberts hiring.

As a Dodgers fan, I am greatly satisfied with him going hitless and grounding into a double-play on his first AB of the game.

I think you said it yourself - the slant eyes taunt negates any “good will” people may mistake him for having with the “Chinito” usage.

He’s about as innocent as Bob McNair.

Yuli Gurriel has something to say about that.

I forget which inning, but at the top of one of the middle innings (maybe 4 or 5?), they showed him in the stands, and Joe Buck gave a little anecdote about how the Astros were his favorite team since he’s lived there.

This is the same network that wanted Joe Buck to bring attention to George HW Bush being in the stands, without bringing up anything remotely close to his recent groping allegations.

Surprising word choice, but ultimately not shocking.

Fantastic Kinja with that hidden link attached to the period. +1

Same exact age as you, but I think I lost 80% of the color.

As a fan in the stands there tonight in the sweltering heat, I am very thankful.

It was so bad that I’d have preferred the anemic bat of Joc Pederson. At least you could justify it by saying it was a platoon move for a lefty vs. RHP (Arrieta).
