Not really “mind blowing.” This is how ship builders have been refurbishing and retrofitting large vessels for over a century. Replacing coal fired boilers with oil, removing and replace nuclear reactors on subs and aircraft carriers etc. I’m guessing you’re just new to the world of large ship maintenance.

Pro tip # 3 steelies edition: when I equiped our old 328i with the steelies I got the factory wheel covers to match so I zip tied them to the wheels so A. not easily stolen B. don’t get bounced off an errant potholes.

RWD with summers is not generally good, but all seasons if you’re a careful driver and can avoid the worst conditions is fine.

Traction is for cowards. I survived many winters in Cincinnati in RWD cars (G37 and M5) with summer tires year round. I would not recommend everyone do that, but I don’t think it excludes you from being a car enthusiast. (It does slide you down a few notches on the responsibility scale.)

If you claim to be a car enthusiast (or a responsible person) and live in the snowbelt; if you don’t own snow tires you’re neither.

Literally just put them on last weekend.
Pro tip #1: Dark grey/black wheels to hide the slush.

A BMW is never completely fixed. Once you finish fixing all you problems, new ones will pop up. Sometimes the first thing you fixed will re-break. I’m looking at you leaky PS lines.

I feel like I complain about this on every post, but I will never, ever, ever forgive the American public for its obsession with crossovers and SUVs. Crossovers don’t even have more space! They’re just heavier! And drive worse! And make it harder for me to drive the deathtrap tiny sports car I’d love to have, because Read more

No, this is not acceptable. I was very nice to Mary Barra. I was nice to her and I got her ventilators when she needed them. Now I doubt she could pass a conative test. Follow me here, one of my final acts at president will be to abolish GM (and failing Jalopnik). Read more

To be fair, trips or activities that took place a month ago or more, cannot be compared to what is going on right now, in regards to one simple metric — hospitalizations. The negative results of Thanksgiving get togethers is going to be massive and when people start hearing about no more beds at their local hospitals, Read more

I want to try to respond here as others have done, but without yelling at you or calling you stupid. I very much think you’re wrong, but I hope I can express my position in a way that you are at least willing to read and think about. As I see it, here’s the problem with looking at COVID precautions in terms of Read more

Yeah. But still. If everyone did that, we end up, well, where we are with Christmas. Reasonable steps to make something safer doesn’t make it safe. And in this case, the more people that think they can travel safely if they do all those things you mentioned the riskier it is for everyone. Read more
