Urban lead concentrations caused the crime wave of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.. That lead, from auto emissions of leaded gasoline, and lead paint was overwhelmingly concentrated in black neighborhoods, for a variety of RACIST reasons. So the “urban crime wave” actually WAS worse in old, paint-peeling, inner-city…

Yup.
