That’s what I figured! My point was; if someone wants to be a dick about it, they do it everywhere. If they do it once out of four, it’s probably something that was rewritten and not properly edited/checked.* I’ve done it plenty of  times, usually with something I’m actually trying to phrase delicately!

The government stepping in and saying you can’t say “girl or boy” is a bit too authoritarian for my taste. 

All they have to say is “Barbie or Hot Wheels?” and not “girl or boy?” and this problem is solved.
