Sansa's nature is already harder as evidenced by her standing up for herself against Myranda. She doesn't need to be a seductress, perhaps, but a scene of her fear turning to resolve when Ramsay orders Theon to stay could have been very effective. As in, 'i'm not doing this unless Reek GTFO."
The show has mainstream success so it's natural for more attention to be foisted upon the way it uses rape and torture.
Some internet wags are calling them the Teenage Mutant Ninja Sand Snakes, so cartoon characters, indeed!
It makes sense in the world but it kind of sucks Sansa is the victim again after going through her previous nightmare with Joff. What happened to Dark Sansa who was learning how to scheme from LF? Why not make her a willing participant, even the seductress in the scene, which would give her agency and flip the script…
That's my takeaway as well, particularly after revealing 'Dark Sansa' at the end of last year. Now she's just a victim again. It would've been far more interesting if she was a willing participant in the consummation of the marriage, knowing LF is using her and that fact giving her the strength to manipulate Ramsay.
Subtlety is the friend of the troll. You need to work on your act and come back to us in two weeks.
Whether or not you agree with GoT's use of rape as a plot device, the producers have a fairly clear endgame - to me, at least - that will give Sansa back some of her power. That is, Sansa realizing the extent LF would go to further his own ends, and that she's just a pawn in his scheme. Sansa will be the root of LF's…
I don't think any the producers are going to give any credence to the think pieces or whatever kind of outrage comes out from the rape scene. They have their vision about life in Westeros and they're not going to change it now.
I watched Revenge of the Nerds again recently and came out halfway charmed by the movie's don't-give-a-fuckness when it came to stereotypes that would never see the light of day today (Robster Craws, limp-wristed javelin tech, etc). But Lewis is a kind of gross stalker and he tricks a girl into fucking him, which is…
2005's Hellraiser: Hellworld left me with the same feeling. It's simply a bad movie, but the way it treats video games (the plot is something about a gathering of people who play an MMO based on the franchise - how meta!) is at least funny for its clueless outdatedness.
It's always a nice surprise when GOT has two scenes in a row with the same characters. That's not sarcasm, either! The Bolton/Sansa scenes were well done and I want to see how this shakes out.
Online ebook, here's the linky
The source material is not bad and goes some pretty nasty Lovecraftian places. Could be good, 90-minute fun without some origin story as to how the grass came to be there and such.
just vined that the other day lol. top kek
Great job again, Will. You really seem to know how to bring out the best from your interview subjects.
13 episodes would at least let the show breathe a bit rather than having five subplots going over one hour every week. I like the show but damned if seasons don't get messy more often than not.
Why aren't real-life conversations like the ones we see on prestige TV?
After reading the whole article, I'm not sure if this experience would be wonderful or hellish. Somebody should call The Hague on the AV Club staff for imposing those restrictions on Alex, though. That's just cruel!
They just…like talking…to salesmen.
