I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I've imagined the *exact* same thing. In my version, he whoops all the necessary butts, pulls down his hood and informs the newbies "I'm Luke Skywalker, I'm here to rescue you."

I'm too old to be this excited about a movie.

I know it's just rumors and such, but I do love the idea of the initial plot being kicked off by "Luke Skywalker is missing. We need to find him." It's clever, interesting, and hints at something being wrong before the film even starts. And Hamill with beard is pretty sweet.
