Great casting since his character on Homeland was also incredibly powerful which made me immediately associate the two.

I agree with you. I was responding to the reviewers statement above my own. If she got it wrong, yay, thanks for clarifying!

Also, of note, this is a comedy, I realize, but there are no Spanish-speaking only teachers in LA as they are credentialled by the state in English. This was the show stereotyping.

Yep, that has nothing to do with it. The AP has steered only black students into the program which is why Freida is pissed.

The only reason there aren't latino/a students is because of the racism of the Asst Principal. Having seen many programs like We've Got Y'all, it is extremely rare for them to not be at about the same racial %s as the school itself.

You're correct. These are public middle schools where English is used for all classes in LA except for those students who have just arrived from other countries…and even then, at my last South LA school, the kids were forced to take classes in English in all but their ELD (English Language Development, formerly known

This is not at all true. I left a comment elsewhere. Your assumptions are incorrect.

Ashley,
I believe you've made a biased assumption that really needs to be called out. As a 7th grade English teacher in South LA for 12 years at schools with 75-85% Latino/a populations, I was teaching students who spoke, read, and wrote in English…because they were, you know, Americans.

The fact that you're being insulting says more about you than my simple statement that it's fair to ask the question ever will.

And yet in the 4 times I read the series, I never remembered their existance. It's a fair point to ask, "Why not send him on an eagle?" and always has been.

Some of us are talking about the books. Sigh.

I immediately thought of Seven Samurai, but I'm fancy like that.

The fact that it's 7 made me think it's a direct homage to Seven Samurai tbh.

So well said!

I enjoyed 3% and Terrace House. I also watch a ton of their British exports.

This must be why I'm not understanding this criticism at all. We have a Samsung Smart TV that is 4 years old, and I don't even know what you or the reviewer are talking about re: green or blue filter.

Right?!

Isn't he at least interested in it from a historical sense? Where we were and how far we've come (or haven't)?

I loved the 8th episode and that it was the 8th episode. I mean, just that decision alone, elevates this show to B+ level for me. How much richer did it make the entire season to finally know from whence everything sprung? How much more heartbreaking to see a couple who had been so in sync and attuned to one another

I couldn't agree with you more.
