Right? I guess people get all hot-and-bothered by these things, but to me it’s a waste of time to be preoccupied with something unattainable. It’s like being fixated on a celebrity or model. It’s fine when you’re 13 and have no sense of what things cost or exclusivity.

The house next to me sold for $28k over asking in the first hour of being on the market. I’m priced out of my own damn neighborhood and I’ve only lived here 3 years.

I came here to say the same thing. Maybe I’m getting bitter, but the proliferation of hyper-cars just says that I’ve been left far behind while the top 1% seems to be expanding beyond belief. I can’t afford a fixer upper home in my own neighborhood anymore while house prices top a $Million for a 2 br bungalow.

I’m honestly at the point where I’m more excited about the new Civic than another 40 billion dollar hypercar with a planned production run of -10. The only hypercars that truly intrigue me anymore are Koenigsegg’s.

Well, hell. Now how will El Salvador pay for their new marching band equipment and their monorail?

Ahem? It’s got tobacco and alcohol sponsors!

Hah, and here I was, thinking that was just a good joke.

I don’t know anyone who started smoking because of racing sponsorship.

To myself, it sounds like 2 things could be happening here, maybe both:

$3500 for less than a grand of parts, before labor, might convince the author and her husband to give it a shot. Even if they had to buy tools, jacks, etc they'd still come out ahead. Plus the knowledge gained and money saved could be a big help on their planned road trip. And it's a 90s GM truck so pretty easy to

I call bullshit on your mechanic.

I really do believe you’re being honest, I’ve had many trucks like this up on the rack and found them in similar condition. The owners are almost always clueless and the trucks actually seem to drive just fine. How the suspension sits on the ground a lot of the play is hidden, until there’s a curb or large hole and

Only way to $3500 in parts is calling the local dealer and buying everything at the walk-in rate plus margin.

Victoria,

That’s awesome of you, but my big concern is that her shop is REALLY putting the screws to her.

I really think she needs a second opinion.  If I were in Dallas, I would offer one, however, I’m 5 hours from Dallas.  That’s why I offered to take the estimate from the shop, and re-estimate it using my parts

Hey, I sold it to her, and I talked with her this morning - I just want to say, I legit had no idea. This was my grocery getter and city escape vehicle, and the steering was vague as hell but I chalked that up to GMT2500 handling, or lack thereof. I never wrenched on this except an alternator, because I honestly had

Agreed! Something is very wrong here.

Rock auto is your friend. I can replace my entire front suspension on the wagon for about 100 dollars. Design wise, its not too far off from the burb, but I'd say 3X that for it as it looks to be the 3/4 or 1 ton version. Still not 3500 dollars. When I was a car mechanic, suspension jobs were considered "gravy" work,

Doesn’t an entire ‘96 Suburban go for $3500?

3500 before labor.

As a very seasoned mechanic, and shop owner, I’m calling bullshit. Well, mostly, because I don’t know what the other smaller items consist of, and how many of them there are.

I can tell you this - if I had a customer pull into my shop with a ‘96 Suburban and I gave them a 3500 estimate BEFORE LABOR

The new tundra definitely exudes big dick energy.
