“But I think that in politics, as in families, we hold those who are closer to our hearts to much higher standards than we do our enemies.”
Over and over and over again. Never forget.
I don’t think you’re at all wrong about being of two minds about Clinton (I wasn’t old enough to vote during his terms, but my parents were huge supporters and I was born and raised in DC so I was extremely aware of his presidency in a lot of ways), I just disagree with you on your characterizations of his “pandering”…
In a totally separate comment from my appropriate outrage:
I wonder if I’ll live to see the day where the mass, organized, state-sponsored slaughter of my ancestors is finally not a joke to some people.
You also might want to check on your conceptualization of where capitalism intersects with countries that are actually Democratic Socialist countries:
Do you have a source for any of this beyond, I assume, socialist media?
I’m invoking the Holocaust as an example of American foreign policy and its consequences: http://www.eagleton.rutgers.edu/research/ameri…
Clinton promised one thing and when he tried to execute it, Republicans and homophobes put together enough support and votes to do the opposite of it and as much harm as possible, so he went for a compromise that would pass and at least partially protect gays in the military, which is all he could pass.
As I said, I sent the “praise for hillary” link because every single quote is sourced, and will take you back to the original publication of the praise. Since I’m at work, I really don’t have time to individually source every one.
Ah yes, anecdotal evidence, the strongest of all evidence!
We’ll get there. Part of why we don’t have a progressive WOC running is because it’s hard for WOC to make inroads in politics. Electing the first woman — who has a proven record of support for progressive and liberal politicians, and women and women of color, and the intersection of those things — will help. 16 years…
I think it’s worth sharing if only because it’s a point of view that shouldn’t be suppressed and hidden. Will it change every mind? Definitely not. Should people be made to confront and respect such a POV? Absolutely.
Aw, someone got talked into a logic corner!
It certainly makes your trite dismissal that much sillier.
Just so I read this correctly, you’re saying Bernie is full of shit 100% of the time or 93% of the time?
That’s not true. That’s both not true and hugely ignorant of the realities of politics, of governance, and of government. I get that you believe it, and I appreciate your respectful response, but what you believe is not based in reality.
Amen to that.
OH MY GOD I WOULD BUY THAT BUMPER STICKER IN A HEARTBEAT.
