People definitely abuse other systems, you just don’t hear about it as much since people don’t know to look for it.

People sleeping in their cars are typically using some defeat device like (banned) autopilot buddy to cut down on the nags as well so they know what they’re up to

Here’s someone doing infamouse Tesla

I’m no Tesla fanboy, but JESUS EFFING CHRIST, this “Autopilot isn’t really autopilot hur-dur” shit is exhausting, isn’t it?

I really, truly, believe that everyone that’s continually complaining about ‘Autopilot’ being a deceptive name that misleads people is grossly misjudging the people that buy these cars.

GM is probably renegotiating for a larger ownership stake. GM has nothing to lose: Nikola agreed to pay GM’s costs plus a profit margin for production of their truck on existing production lines, plus EV credits, plus $700M cash, plus 11% ownership stake. Only thing GM loses is reputation for working with a bunch of

It’s more of a personal decision. Do what makes you happy and you feel is right. I will never give up small block V8s but I’m open to installing solar roof panels to offset my electrical usage and possibly daily a BEV if all I do is cruise control to and from work anyway.

Here’s a serious idea for an article: an essay thinking about the necessary contradictions of loving cars and being a person concerned with climate change and the well-being of the world. To take it further: what does it mean to be a person of the left who loves cars, particularly internal combustion cars? What’s the

All great questions. This article should be a thought exercise along the lines of “what would happen if the ban went into effect tomorrow?”

Instead, we have from-the-hip word vomit with absolutely zero critical thought put into it. Like most things Raph and Erik spit out, this take seems to be nothing more than being

This is a shitpost right? Is shitposting allowed on the front page?

Doing what they’re doing is a far more complicated policy decision than you’re identifying - with plenty of complications and problems that make 2035 an aggressive deadline. Just a few of them:

Where did they say it was impossible?  I thought it just wasn’t economically viable for the price they’d have to charge.

It turned out that was a dumb idea, so they moved on. You should too.

Blimey, is he in the way of his accuser?

It’s much easier to shit on things than to actually analyze and see the amazing progress. It’s why the internet sucks - lazy people complain all day.

The windshield has to be the right amount of wet. If I sense any amount of dry wiper on dry windshield friction, it drives me nuts.

Once again GM shooting themselves in the dick to make a buck.

Should be funded by supercruise package sales from new car sales.

Unless it was specified at the time of purchase, one could rightly presume that is baked in to the initial purchase price. It’s going to come down to fine print, but if it’s true that Cadillac only changed their mind last year, I think original owners have grounds for legal action. I don’t think I would’ve paid an

They switched to NiMH at some point, but you’re right it was never very practical. Being a two seater and years ahead of decent cost effective batteries didn’t give it much of a chance. As an engineering exercise I’m sure GM learned a lot, and probably that was their goal for it all along.

GM introduced the EV-1 in ‘96, and debuted the electric skateboard powertrain in ‘02, and buried both ideas. Basically Tesla’s entire foundation is built upon ideas put forth in that Hy-Wire concept. GM was there first two decades ago and said nah fuck it.

“Get out of your car on a dark rural highway to check on a wounded, probably angry deer,” isn’t great advice.
