It’s really not. Northern Wisconsin uses sand on the road, it offers traction when it’s too cold to melt the snow/ice, melts snow/ice once it warms, doesn’t destroy vehicles, and makes the roads far more pleasant to drive on than the slush/ice mixture salt creates.
