The last pitch gets all the attention, but the one I bet Beltran thinks about the most is the first one. Wainwright gave him a very hittable pitch, but with the bases loaded and facing a rookie pitcher, Beltran (understandably) was taking all the way. The next pitch he gave a good cut but fouled off, and then

John Lackey is 18 years older than Julio Urias. That has to be the biggest age gap ever between two starters facing each other in a postseason game, right?

“Why was she out at 4 a.m.?” Because she was fucking hungry.

Thinking about all the idiots who are going to say “But what was a 15-year-old doing out at 4 a.m.” is already making me so mad.

That Candace Parker move to escape the trap was beautiful. It’s one of those plays that makes me love basketball so damn much.

Interesting but useless fact of the day: Kenyon Martin was the last American born #1 overall pick who didn’t leave college early. A college graduate being the first pick is weirdly reflective of just how bad that draft was.

The Giants were up 3-1 in this game and were in complete control. How the fuck did they blow this?

We’ll laugh at her, but the “Yeah this white person is evil, but look at this black people thing that you find scary even though it’s not!” strategy has pretty much always worked. So, on a really infuriating and depressing level, I understand why she did it, because more Americans than we want to admit will hear that

Raines was clearly a better player, but the argument that “Player X shouldn’t be in the HoF because Player Y was better and he isn’t in” is always a little flawed. It’s similar to arguing that no player should be unanimously voted into the Hall because Willie Mays and Ted Williams weren’t. Don’t let past mistakes

Every single on that album could come out today and not feel the least bit dated. It’s amazing.

Now playing

Hot take: Control and Rhythm Nation are better albums than Thriller.

The first game these teams played this season was one of the craziest regular season games I’ve seen in years. This is going to be the best WNBA Finals ever.

If Familia intentionally walks Gillaspie the bases are loaded with only one out, but the Giants would be forced to pinch hit for Bumgarner, so he’d be out of the game. In theory that’s an absurd strategy, but Bumgarner is an absurd pitcher, so what choice do you have?

Luther is well produced, but outside of that the only good things about it are Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson. When they’re on screen together, it’s fantastic. When Wilson isn’t there, it’s just Elba trying his best to carry a mediocre show. And he kind of pulls it off, because he’s that good.

God, that first episode was good. I walked away from the show after the second season, but I still revisit that episode all the time.

I loved what they did with Adler... until the last 10 minutes, when you find out Moriarty was behind everything and Sherlock has to go save her life. It felt to me like the perfect example of Moffat’s ongoing issues with writing women. But there could be something there that I missed or didn’t appreciate. I’ll watch

I’m sure every black sports journalist who has spent their careers constantly being denied entry to events by security who thinks they look like “they don’t belong” is thoroughly enjoying this article.

I’ll go a step further: it should have ended after Season One.

I think we’re all missing a crucial point here: how the fuck does a wealthy white man lose a billion dollars in the ‘90s?

What sports take have you had in your adult life that you’re now the most embarrassed by?
