I’m not a White Sox fan, but for some reason I always loved Mark Buehrle. I can’t explain why he was a joy to watch, but he was.

Also worth noting: there were 35 strikeouts in this game, which breaks the major league record for a nine inning game. Harvey had 11 in just six innings! But Scherzer was a fucking monster. I’ve never seen a performance like that.
Outside of maybe Andrew McCutchen, R.A. Dickey might be the most likable player in the whole sport. The second my team is eliminated, I’m rooting for a Jays vs. Pirates World Series.
If the Cubs win, Theo Epstein will have brought a title to Boston and to north Chicago. And he’s barely 40.
This deserves more stars.
Stewart was an awful interviewer when he first started. It took him years to improve, and I never thought he was consistently good.
Oh, I think Colbert will be great. It’s just going to take some time. This is the first time he’s ever been on TV as himself, which has to be so bizarre. Give him a few months, and he’ll be fantastic. He’s already much better than he was just two weeks ago.
Colbert started off bumpy, but there was never a reason to be concerned. Putting together a show like that, and following a legend, is so damn hard. I think it says a lot about him that he’s managed to improve so quickly.
I’ll never understand why other Mets fans bitch so damn much. The Mets have won more pennants than every other expansion team. The Mets are one of seven expansion teams from the 1960s. They’ve won two world series, and the other six teams have won two combined. And they were a Carlos Beltran base hit away from…
People tend not to take defense into account when discussing MVP awards, but I think Donaldson would get a pass on all the errors because that’s unusually high for him. After Arenado and Machado, he’s the best defensive third baseman in the game right now.
If you told me a few months ago that Noah would do better in his first Daily Show than Colbert did in his first Late Show, I’d have said you were nuts. But it happened. Noah was really good until the interview, which was awkward and felt pointless. He’ll have to work on that. But otherwise, that was an encouraging…
For nearly 15 minutes of Trading Places, Dan Akroyd is wearing blackface. It’s a great movie on a number of levels, but man is it hard to watch in 2015.
Donaldson is probably getting it this year, especially if the Angels miss the playoffs. You could argue this is the first year since he came into the league that Trout doesn’t deserve the MVP, but it’s really close.
Firing Charlie Strong for the only NFL coach who has been accused of racism by multiple players is peak NCAA and peak Texas.
What college team do you think Chip Kelly will be coaching in two years? I can’t see any SEC team taking him. I’m guessing he ends up back in the Pac-12. Maybe Colorado?
Words like “perfect” and “brilliant” are completely overused these days, so I say this sincerely: the use of that Tubman quote in this situation was both brilliant and perfect.
I always think of Roseanne as a ‘90s show for exactly the reason you said, but you’re right. Roseanne was brilliant.
I think of Taxi as a ‘70s show, even though it aired in the ‘80s just as long.
Outside of Cheers, Golden Girls is the best comedy of the ‘80s. And if you wanted to say it was better than Cheers, I wouldn’t call you crazy. I’d disagree, but you can make the argument.
Two time honored American traditions:
