Yeah, that 300 lbs lineman can run a 40 in around 5 seconds and I doubt a power hitter could run more than a light jog around the bases without getting winded.  I was a 220 lbs linebacker in high school and I couldn’t touch 5 seconds despite being in great shape.

I just can’t get excited about an activity that is 95% waiting (time between batters, walks, strikeouts, fly ball catches) and 5% action.  It is boring compared to pretty much any legit sport.  And no, golf is not a sport.

This is how I feel like baseball. If you are 40+ lbs overweight (some pitchers and most big hitters) and still can achieve superstar status, it isn’t a legit sport.

He’s right. It’s a skill game, similar to golf or the ring toss at the carnival. Baseball is played in full pants and shirts, with jewelry and accessories. They run MAYBE 500m over the course of a single game.

It’s literally in the article that someone got killed in that exact intersection. As much as the news makes a big deal about theft, people generally don’t get killed in those incidents. So I would say enforcement action like this should have at least SOME priority, not zero.

How many people run over is acceptable?

What not both?

Someone died in that crosswalk in 2014, hit by a driver. The flashing yellow light wasn’t enough, so now SFMTA is adding a stop light. (The intersection in question is down on the southern end of Sunset Boulevard, just a block north of Sloat).

NPR and college radio are on the low FM in my area. Not perfect but infinitely better than zombie Rush Limbaugh.

I would prefer crosswalks protected by retractable bollards, the sort used to stop semis from entering nuclear power plant operations.

most people are capable of realizing multiple things can be wrong.

Boom, you’re spot on. AM radio is how conservative and religious organizations get the word out to their audiences. What would they do without it?! No more 700 WLW to tell them how to think? My father would be lost without his AM radio.

Technologically, AM radio is probably the cheapest, most robust way to reach the most people quickly.

If they want to keep AM for public safety, they can pick one frequency and reserve it across the United States. Clear out 5 KHz of the best spectrum and treat them like the EBS where you can activate it in affected areas via a few 50-100 kW antennas. Use it for regional emergency weather alerts, national security

i cross an unmarked crosswalk every morning. to get to the bus stop and for 4 years, not a single car has ever respected my right of way and slowed down for me to cross.

Even if there’s a stoplight, even if there’s a crosswalk light, a pedestrian still has the right of way, especially if they’re in the crosswalk. (that’s not jaywalking) If you watch the video, the chicken isn’t actually trying to cross the road, just stepping out into the lane to see if the driver would slow down or

Also no parking zones maybe 50 feet from the crosswalk entrance would help a lot as well.

nice to see cops being proactive on this, considering it is so hard to get judicial system to act retroactively after a tragedy.

These are the kind of stops cops should be making and charging people for, not “5 over in a 55.” I also think that any money collected for traffic stops should go into traffic safety programs, not law enforcement budgets. Make people pay for their own driver’s (re)education.

Probably has a convenient bill of sale dated before the sinking where it is sold to a John Smith or Juan Vasquez
