Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw received a 37% increase in compensation last year, even after the company’s railroad was involved in a financially and ecologically disastrous derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

$600M is a parking ticket for a company that big. It gives them permission to keep operating recklessly because the potential fine is so small it doesn’t make financial sense for them to operate safely.

The title is misleading. It should say Norfolk Southern is going to pass the $600 million dollar bill to the consumers.

This is straight horse shit and $600 Million is insulting. This is only a couple hours from where I live and I have a friend who lives in that area who said things havent been the same since. Let alone what will happen as time goes on. This should have been in the billions. Fuck you Norfolk Southern

$600M is chump change. These guys should be forfeiting every compensation package earned at the highest level on top of that and that should contribute at least another $4B.

Agreed. Every time I go back home its insane how many fucking churches there are. Its totally ingrained into their existence. Growing up, I assumed that literally every single American just automatically went to church. And then I moved to California and realized there’s a lot more things to do with my time on Sunday…
