Yeah it’s a mistake not being a bit more clear about the era. Madness, The Specials, The Beat and so on certainly don’t need rehabbing, they’ve been almost universally adored for 45 years.

If, according to the quote in the article, ska is
I think the difference is “emo” isn’t predicated on “let’s make reggae somehow worse"
I don’t listen to 3rd wave ska the same way I don’t listen to modern punk bands. I’m old so the new bands are just dudes who have some of the same records I do. I grew up in the 70s listening to Jamaican ska and have a soft spot for 2-Tone, so my (admittedly minor) ska needs are easily met from my collection.
So far, he’s given 53.8 billion dollars to charity. I don’t get the need of people to jump on him, either.
This. Whatever he’s like personally, his foundation - which, Jesus, Jezebel, do some research before you casually dismiss the Gates Foundation - has done an incredible amount to transform living conditions in the developing world.
Is there really a need to shit on Bill Gates? I’ve seen enough of it from right wing sources and now this one too?
It may be because I’m super-old, but one of the first things I remember about the Gates Foundation after it formed was all the mosquito netting it provided to countries in Africa and its dedication to family planning. This isn’t just another Bezos, folks, even if you do not like the man.
“We donate to anything that helps educate people about the horrors of the Holocaust, as long as it is apolitical.”
I absolutely hear where you’re coming from on that. Like again, with the Latinx thing - I know almost no one who actually wants to be called that. So you wonder where that’s from/how that’s helping. It’s a thing, and it does need to be talked about and people do need to feel like they should feel comfortable saying…
And keep pounding the “if you make less than 400k, your taxes don’t go up” drum in hopes that people start to hear it. I keep hearing from people making less than 50k, the people that will benefit from Biden’s plans most, complaining about their taxes going up.
One of the smart things Biden has done, and I hope he doesn’t back down on, is daring Republicans to actually say their beliefs out loud, especially when it comes to economic issues.
In fairness to Blackburn and Vance, they’re both colossal fucking idiots.
It took a Herculean effort by Abrams and her group just to barely eke out those victories. It shouldn’t be so hard.
My mother is a native spanish speaker - and longtime social worker -and she’s so confused by latinx. Like - truly it’s harder to get more “woke” than someone who worked at planned parenthood for twenty years and has been marching for immigrant rights since the 70's and she’s just like “que es latinsh? latiness? How do…
Trump picked up 12 million votes between 2016 and 2020, the most total votes of any Republican ever. While he lost suburban women and never had young urban folks, he picked up Latino voters and rural/suburban white males (where populist rhetoric about America First plays well). That is why all the dingleberries that…
Screamed this before 2016. Nobody listened.
I thought woke meant don’t close your eyes to racist shit going on around you.
Latina here and Latinx is fucking dumb and needs to die but anyone who lets that be what sways their vote is showing their true colours.
“Latinx” has not caused me or the other Latinos in my family to stop voting for Democrats. But the term is obnoxious, grating, and I can definitely see it turning some people off, so much so that they may not even want to hear what you’re saying as soon as “Latinx” leaves your lips.
