There’s really nothing remarkable about this guy.  He sounds like every other smackhead who tells you they don’t have a problem, and that YOU’RE the problem really.

I’m also sober—weed is indeed pretty harmless for the vast majority of people who can use it recreationally without ruining their lives. It’s not for me, but I don’t begrudge the “legalize weed” movement at all.

Agreed. When it comes to Heroin especially, maybe there’s the occasional lucky person who can have a fun time occasionally dancing and hanging out on the edge of the giant pit of quicksand and walk away, but most people are going to fall in, either quickly or slowly. It’s not worth it to find out which one you are.

yeah i agree with you. i was never a full-blown addict, but I never realized how badly my “casual, moderate” use of substances was actually fucking up my life until I quit them and became completely sober. My drugs of choice were weed (“harmless”) and alcohol (“socially acceptable”). Getting sober has really made me

Ex-junkie here-19 years sober. I’ll say the same thing here that I said on the NYT review of his book: this guy is most likely a junky and doesn’t know it, and the really sad part is that he’s getting paid to be a junky researcher and book-writer, which means he is going to keep doing drugs until it kills him. I don’t

As an addiction counselor, you’re pretty much only going to be seeing people who are having trouble with quitting their drug use. Someone who has made up their mind that they’re going to knock it off and then just...does...they won’t be seeking your services. Nor will they be telling friends, coworkers or the internet

Destigmatizing seeking help if you wind up addicted = good.

I’m gonna mask up in airports and public transport from here on out I think. As well as when I’m feeling pre-sick (glum, maybe sore throat, but “could be allergies” sort of stuff).

I agree that drug laws and stigma need to change, but if he’s equating his few days taking heroin the non-injection route and kicking it as not problematic to a long-term IV user’s experience, I’d say he’s never worked as an addiction counselor to too many long-term IV users. Granted, I’m working only off of this

70% of heroin and meth users are not addicts and only use those drugs recreationally with no negative impact on their lives?  Uh.  I’m gonna call 100% bullshit on this one.

Maybe it’s the cynic in me but I’m definitely beginning to wonder when the time will come, not very far into the future, that a publisher will try to find some very mild depiction of race or sex or gender or whatever that they can then make a big fanfare about removing from a once-popular-but-now-on-the-decline book

I’ll give them this: I’m not the kind of person who will just go see a musical absent some other factor that makes it a cultural phenomenon or something—but I’ll watch the hell out of a documentary (and certainly one made by what amounts to ‘rockstar’ documentarians.)

But the fact that everyone and their mom has a music doc streaming on amazon right now and they can’t get one for the x-ray spex is really something.

“getting the vaccine would show that they’re weak and afraid.” Aren’t they aware that everyone already knows that they are weak and afraid because they need to carry guns with them everywhere? Beta-cuck says “what”?

It makes total sense.

This is conservatives writ large. They oppose social programs and then enjoy the benefits to society that such programs provide without acknowledging where those benefits are coming from . They “vote no and take the dough,” as Pelosi so eloquently put it.

Nothing more manly than relying on the rest of the community to do the heavy lifting for you.

Where was he radicalized? NYT reporting that this guy’s church was anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-premarital sex, and preached the brand of “purity” doctrine that tells women their immodesty in dress and behavior leads men astray.

If the tweets were from a couple years ago or while she was already in the workforce that’s one thing. But when the ignorance was from a person’s teenage years, I’d hope folks would be open to giving her a chance to show her growth in the past ten years.

This is gross. I’m as woke/SJW-y as the next far-lefty, but she was SEVENTEEN. Jesus christ. If she had put that stuff out when she was 27*, then sure...you’re a grown-ass adult by then and should know better. But call off the dogs for a few months and see if she’s grown. I was a goddamn idiot when I was 17.
