Throw weight in there as well. The fact a 9,000 lbs Hummer EV requires the same license and can be driven next to a 2,120 lbs Miata is ridiculous.
it’s time to mandate (and enforce) a standardized bumper height for all vehicles.
I’m betting >90% of truck buyers aren’t towing.
I dumped an F-150 for it. It tows everything I own that needs towing and is infinitely easier to park and live with. Rides way better too.
I saw a Santa Cruz in Toronto a couple months ago. I have not seen a Maverick yet. I’m not really looking though. Maybe the Hyundai caught my eye just because it was so ugly.
Right now I have an aging sedan. I live by myself and having a sedan is…annoying often enough that I won’t do it again. The only two new (that is, not preowned) cars I’d consider would be an Outback XT or the Maverick. Nothing else comes close when features / price really gets scrutinized.
Following that line of reasoning, you’d be better served buying another car and leaving your truck to towing duty only. Maybe that’s what you do...? I’d imagine if you’ve got $$$ and space for a boat, it would be pretty easy to buy/park another car as well.
It’s got more interior space than my Focus, more cargo space than my Focus, AND it gets better gas mileage in the hybrid! I have never wanted to own a truck before and I’m seriously considering getting one of these.
I’d say mostly the latter. To me it is infinitely more useful than any of the small CUVs (CR-V, Rogue, Rav4, etc.). So I think a decent chunk of people are cross-shopping these and CUVs and coming to the conclusion that this does more. And maybe some cross-over from sedan folks, but sedan folks seem to be sedan…
I’d be curious what people are trading in. Is this full-size/mid-size truck owners realizing this is all they need, or car owners realizing a small truck is a better option than a sedan?
Exactly. I like the whole cheap small truck thing. It is pretty much what I want but I would also like to tow a small project car occasionally but get good gas mileage. My project car is nasty enough on mpg.
My friend bought a Santa Cruz to replace his GMC Canyon. I haven’t asked how he likes it yet but the interior looks a lot better than the Canyon...which is not hard to accomplish.
Yea an AWD hybrid XLT with the luxury package would suit me nicely.
Six and a half months and counting on my preorder hybrid Maverick. We’ll see how long it ultimately takes. The Bronco Sport is a decent alternative, but no hybrid engine makes it a non-starter in this case.
It is a cheap hybrid and a cheap truck and a cheap car. There was no scenario where it wasn’t going to succeed.
The Santa Cruz is Santa Screwed unless they fix their pricing, options, and pull a hybrid outta their ass.
I also want an AWD hybrid Maverick... but why not just get the turbo? And why was what you ended up with a 18mpg Tacoma?
Yeah an AWD hybrid version with the tow package would be perfect for me.
I recently purchased a new Tacoma. What pushed me away from the Maverick was the lack of an AWD hybrid, and the general lack of availability. I didn’t want to order a vehicle and wait six months, particularly one that I couldn’t test drive before ordering.
