I played a little Sonic Colors, and I remember the 3-D sections being fun and also very pretty too look at.

That makes sense! I never thought of that. Initially I thought you might've meant the Galaxy games, which could be tricky to port without Wii Remotes because of collecting star bits.

I liked it quite a bit. I don't remember all the specifics of what happened, but it was a fairly dark, efficient flick with some humor and very suspenseful/cringey moments where the kids were being very stupid. Also I think a good deal of my affection for it comes from the title.
