The big difference I see between Porche and Tesla here is that you can actually buy a Porche *exactly* like the one that posted the 7:42 lap time off their showroom floor and drive it today.

I don’t own a Tesla and in fact i’m fairly close to being a Porsche fanboy.

Maybe even a Ferrari going very very slowly.  As they tend to do when in private hands at an open track.

To be fair, the Tesla was probably also passed by a couple of rental Renault Clios and about a dozen GTIs and 3-series bros, as well. The Taycan just makes it funnier.

And it really isn’t a “positive” article. I’d say neutral.  They just simply report a fact and restrained themselves from adding snide remarks like it’s about time or something like that.

As one of the resident Jalopnik commenters who also frequents Lifehacker, there are a lot of opinions on this, but most of it comes down to your lifestyle and living location.

going to a track for the first time in an official capacity is not automatically a whim! You’re just making it easier for people to point out how you’re making negative stuff up, Robb. In your opinion Musk was “not prepared” for this, despite having cars ready and shipped to Germany and running them on the track with R

your statement that this was done “on a whim” is wild speculation. you have zero idea whether that’s true or not. you’re only assuming it is because you were surprised by the announcement. you honestly think they built up an entirely new drivetrain and arranged to ship it to Germany “on a whim”? it’s no wonder people

The only thing done on a whim here was sending a few prototype cars (see: pre-production, see: Taycan) over to The Ring shortly after Porsche made their run. Do you know for a fact there is no roll cage? That opens a conversation that should every car on The Ring should a roll cage, does it not?

I’m not sure a Tweet declaring “Model S on Nurburgring next week” (which is exactly when the car arrived and began track testing) provides enough information to talk about the level of planning that went into this effort from Tesla.

On top of the 3-4 other Tesla bashing articles posted last week. Let’s also not sit here and play to the tune that Robb’s article was by any means flattering towards Tesla.

I think it’s the fact that you aren’t internet apologizing or doing some form of mea culpa for negative Tesla coverage.

P100D Turbo is my preference

Y’all were bashing Tesla and this attempt for an entire week about this. gg

This is where I was thinking. Most cars you can only hear the engine or exhaust noise as they are right on you or past you. Maybe everyone needs mudding tires?

“While most people, especially blind and visually impaired pedestrians, rely on engine noises as a way to gauge a vehicle’s distance and speed.”

Never mind performance. Apparently all I am supposed to care about is panel gaps.
