I bought an incredibly well-made carrier from Rigd supply that stuck into the trailer hitch and held the tire very steady, but it was too heavy for my petite wife to open and close easily. The Rigd carrier is in the garage now.

Sweet setup! Looking for a GX/LX470 myself lately. I swear I don’t think I’ve seen them get half as much attention in the past compared to this summer/fall. Used prices have skyrocketed on them too.

The slightly better campsite brief could have been fulfilled by a stock GX, or a Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra (even without any of the TRD off road packages offered for any of them). I’d say what you’re doing is a bit more ambitious than that - and more power to ya!

The only real downside to the 470 is they’re prone to rust and you have to change the timing belt every 100K miles or so. It’s not a terrible job to do though parts prices are kinda steep.

The power kneeling system, drops the vehicle lower so that the angle of the ramp to get into the car is less steep. It can be disengaged if we are parked near a sidewalk or something.
