Convinced that was the inspiration for the Herkimer Battle Jitney. This is more along the lines of what I was hoping to see from Torch, uncharacteristically boring and inside the box suggestion from him on this one. It does have that air of “don’t ask what’s in the box” look to it though.
There are some comically shitty trailers out there, but the stuff from Jayco, RPOD, Casita and Airstream are solid enough to take down bad dirt roads and feel nicer than a van when parked at 1/2 the price of a similarly equipped van.
Access issues, maybe? If he’s talking about potential 4WD a camper may not fit the profile.
You never really get rid of the smell.
I had a 4x4 DHL van that I built into a semi-crude camper. With the lift and good tires I never once needed four wheel drive while doing dispersed camping in Colorado. I switched it into 4x4 only to get out of bad parking spots in ski towns. I say skip the added expense and weight of 4x4/AWD and get good tires. Add a…
Hell yeah, Jimbo!
the thing that they haven’t figured out yet is that people don’t enjoy towing a house made of toothpicks and newspaper
I wish he had explained a bit more why he doesn’t want an RV (or presumably a trailer). Such a huge range from tiny trailers to “holy shit why do we let people drive busses with a regular drivers license”. Pickup based RVs, van-based RVs, all sorts of different things. And generally actually suited to live in (and…
The answer for living long term is not a van, it’s a camper trailer. Trailer manufacturers figured out cooling / heating / bathroom / kitchen 60 years ago, and a decent one can be bought for penny’s on the dollar. Van life is glamorous on Instagram, but the reality of a $30k van is dirty clothes, shitting in holes and…
All the options suggested are pretty cramped and would require a lot of compromise. Not that this solution won’t, but wouldn’t he be better served splitting the transportation+housing components in to a camper trailer and an SUV? That way once he gets where he’s camping/living for a while the trailer can just stay…
If money were no object though, this would be my choice. Pick your brand of base vehicle I suppose, but there is something to be said about a 4X4 E van. https://sportsmobile.com/sportsmobile-4x4/
Reliable and rugged? An E series van, IME you can’t kill the things. Take out the seats and install some lovely shag carpet.
Wait, Torch is being (mostly) practical and Tom is pushing the JDM stuff? These are very confusing times.
fine you don’t like sprinter then you get a ford, but I have to say the sprinter versions of these are something special. I feel like you could get a 2017 high roof sprinter for relatively cheap now, but not the AWD version. Still everything else fits.
Ram Promaster... That FWD platform makes a for a lower and flatter sleeping area. as well as more load height so you can almost walk around inside of it.
