I've been scared this would be the approach — the emotions are gonna be running high either way but this will probably be next level tearjerking, if it is indeed the case.

I think she posted on instagram the other day that her publisher was running a contest where if you pre-ordered the book you were entered into a draw where she would do an illustration for you of items that you would carry around. The dream.

The soundtrack is also available digitally tomorrow, and it's pretty amazing. Between the score for this, Jackie and La La Land we are truly blessed for soundtracks this year.

I've been listening to the jukebox song (Hello Stranger by Barbara Lewis) ever since TIFF and it gives me the butterflies in the stomach every single time.

One interesting trick I noticed Jenkins used at least twice was to have the shot hold on the actor's face while still having the dialogue continue. Super brief, but a really subtle way of letting you really process things the way they are in the film.

I just had a really vivid recollection of her "are you okay?" line reading in Mad Men and suddenly got choked up and now I need to start Season 1 all over again tonight.

Rather than just going through and upvoting these for hours on end (there are some seriously great picks down there), just throwing these out into the universe.

I feel like Explosions almost falls into the Arcade Fire camp of "unfair to include you because everything you do is produced to create chills". They do it extremely well, though! My personal pick would be Postcard from 1952 — right as it's about to do that final explosion and the guitars almost have a bell-like

I've always gotten chills in This Tornado Loves You when there's a little guitar flutter after she says "I miss how you'd sigh yourself to sleep". It's such a specific moment, but the frantic guitar is a fantastic mesh with the tornado imagery.

Re-read Story of Your Life after seeing Arrival last week at TIFF (which I loved!). Such powerful source material, and a surprisingly faithful adaptation that still made some interesting modifications. Teared up even more this time around, and excited to read more of Chiang's other stuff.

Randomly checked and scored the last ticket for Moonlight on Saturday. Skipping out on Nocturnal Animals to make that happen. Sounds like I won't regret that decision. (This post was a bit of a brag — apologies, all around)

Somehow made it into last nights La La Land screening. It was pretty magical and I think the last ten minutes took my breath away in a way I hadn't really felt since Whiplash.

I think my only real issue with it was that every. single. line. basically is an attempt at a joke. Maybe that's a Feig thing. In some cases it works (McKinnon's especially, because somehow she offers a performance where every look/line she does is unique and hilarious). However, for the most part I would rather they

"No, Ben! No!"

Saw Sing Street this weekend and it met the high expectations I had due to John Carney's track record of making cute films that really spotlight a genuine love of music.

I've been trying to spread the word about these guys since their demos a few years back. They do seem to be doing well based on their sold out tours, but I still feel like no one knows about them when I talk about them, for some reason.

Had the country radio station on during a trip home last weekend and heard the new Florida Georgia Line song H.O.L.Y (high on lovin you). The most transparent cashgrab for a summer wedding ballad I've probably ever recognized. It's kinda made all the more transparent due to FGL's abrupt segue from "right way to live"

Not as current given their split, but The Civil Wars were doing some good folk/borderline country.

SO good. Saw it in Previews and loved the energy of the score. The songs are still stuck in my head. Did not expect to like Mueller's version of She Used to be Mine more but it really brought the house down.

Was stuck at home dogsitting this weekend but used that time to catch up on some lighter HBO shows on HBO On Demand.
