Yep, it's got to have a good intro as someone else was saying.

I loved that! I always looked forward to the Laguna bits because of that theme.
I Loved that battle theme! I always thought it sounded like it could be the theme tune to some action packed cheesy TV show:) Actually, that's true of quite a few JRPG tunes I can think of. I seem to remember the game came with a mini soundtrack album.
Well said.
I think revisiting what made JRPGs great is EXACTLY what is needed at the moment. The genre seems to have changed all the wrong things of late.
Also, Olivia would working with the crossing to parallel worlds thing:)
lol, I remember jumping around like a loon in the Disgaeas. I do vaguely remember finding some stuff because of it, though.
I thought the demo didn't do the game any favours, TBH. I'd say if you still liked it despite the 'in the deep end' thing. The full game gives you a much gentler introduction to the combat, first with just Oliver himself for as many fights you want to do on the world map and then with Oliver and a familiar as soon as…
I remember swapping when I wanted in the demo but I'm not sure I remember how. I think it was the shoulder keys.
So many great area themes in this game.
Fantastic:) I was just about to link to this.
Brings back memories!! I was just about to say there's an awesome arranged version of that theme but I see someone beat me to it:)
Spot on with Mass Effect; It always reminded me of TD and sometimes Vangelis. Love the Mass Effect music.
Double post I know but I thought of another one...sort of. Arranged version of one of the Shining Force 3 themes (well, it's ON the world map!) by Motoi Sakuraba:-
Everybody always discounts this one in favour of Lost Odyssey but it had some really nice FF style music. Fantastic map theme:-
Not a world map theme, but I loved Overture from FF8. It was just SO atmospheric with that playing over the monochrome pictures in the intro.
The music I'll always remember from Tales of the Abyss is the one that plays over the intro. I love that song:)
Not sure about that Chocobo music but I really love the music it plays when you are running through the first area after meeting Noel. Also the music in New Bodhum (sp?) is wonderfully laid back and dreamy.
Suikoden music is unmistakeable. Suikoden V felt like such a return to form after the disappointing IV and (at least to me) III.
Not the biggest fan of FFIX but I did love that map music and seeing the big misty world laid out below me with all the little airships zipping about:)
