Yeah, I miss the old Gizmodo Commentariat.
Yeah, I miss the old Gizmodo Commentariat.
I’m just happy that I got to experience the glory days of Gawker Media from nearly day one. I mean, it sucks to see what it’s been whittled down to, but at least I know what a quality site should be like.
That’s because they wanted people to subscribe to comment. Now they’ve opened the comments up for free, but many people don’t know that and have already abandoned the new sites. The comments are why I went to Jezebel & Splinter, and Paste shot themselves in the foot.
Hey Starve, almost all the old GMG site comments are gone now! How you holding up? Did you cave and buy a Jezebel membership? I didn’t. Yet.
While on principal I’m in favor of stuff going into the public domain eventually, so far every example of people trying to use these big name characters in ways that weren’t already allowed I find myself caring less and less about it as a concept worth advocating for. By and large the companies that have those…
I’m just here to note (correctly) that Jim Spanfeller is a herb as well as a thin-skinned poopy baby. A thin-skinned farty poopy baby herb who doesn’t know not to mess with one of the site network’s strongest assets: its lively, active, frequently returning commentariat.
How do they make money off destroying all these popular sites?
Kotaku has shut off comments.
The Root: No comments
Deadspin: No comments, no Drew Magary
Quartz: No one knows what the fuck this is
The Inventory: “Please clicks these links, we’re seriously desperate here!!1!”
The Onion: Should have stayed independent
Jalopnik: A shell of its former self. Mostly slideshows.
AV Club:…
So I guess I have to ask... what’s up with Kotaku? Did game fans get too wild for too long in the now-closed comments? It seemed like the comments there were a major draw for the site.
Bitcoin isn’t a currency at all, because it’s not a liability. It has no counterparty. Like gold, it needs nothing to back it. It is money. In fact, it’s the most perfect money ever invented.
You’re absolutely right, Starve. You in particular shouldn’t vote. But you’re not as powerless as you feel. You and Crystal and Julia could open a women’s support group.
This thread is mostly plagiarism:
1) Coaches always make more money than the players so that’s not really a point.
You’re finishing up your day at work. Another long one. The last two years have been complete hell. All you wanted to do was help secure America by enforcing the laws we’ve already got in the books. Growing up you didn’t care about money, you just wanted to do the right thing. Make your parents proud. There was…
Thanks Scott, that means a lot to me. As someone very familiar with my musings, don’t you find it a bit odd what hits and what doesn’t? There was a rhyme to it back in the day that has pretty much disappeared. This one that you are replying to was good, but ignored. What works now is very basic, essentially stupid…
i’ll need to see your receipt sir
I still miss Gawker everyday. I even remember specific comments made by specific people. Some were fucked up and hilarious, some were insightful and poignant. More than ever we need Gawker back! I’m hoping Ashley Feinberg can start a Gawker related site called like “Fawker. Love ya James, always nice to see old school…
Maybe we can take a moment to think about, and thank, the dear departed Gawker and how they exposed all these bastards years ago? I remember reading about everyone from Cosby to Louis CK to Weinstein, Spacey and Byan Singer there (and a whole bunch of others I’m probably forgetting) and they were right on every single…
His original username was TomatoFace. His schtick is to say something that seems almost like it could be a real opinion but is frustratingly wrong, then stick to his guns and pretend ignorance for the rest of the thread. A real life Poe’s Law troll.
