Ten minutes ago I found out Jalopnik was sold to Static Media. Jalopnik was never my main Kinja hangout as I am more interested in politics and tomato trolling than cars, but it was comforting to know that one Kinja commenting forum still existed. I expect that will be ending soon. Sad.

That’s an interesting comparison but I doubt anyone at Jalopnik has more than a vague remembrance of Crystal Jewell, if they remember her at all.  You could be the only Jalopnik poster who even remembers Crystal’s name.

I agree wholeheartedly. Jezebel and Splinter never should have been removed from Kinja. Huge blunder by Paste, and one that can be corrected by purchasing the Kinja system from Great Hill. It can’t be expensive.

It seems Paste management may have perceived the wisdom of leaving AV Club on Kinja. My hope is that Paste acquires Kinja and implements commenting on all the Paste sites.  Despite its known flaws, Kinja is a vastly superior commenting platform to the WordPress dreck that Paste currently uses for Jezebel and Splinter.

Mr. Spanfeller’s fatal error was declining to take TomatoFace up on his offer to run his own vertical for an equity stake back in 2019. It was all downhill from there.

Commenting is still online, it’s just not as user-friendly as it was once was. As long as the system is up I’ll hang around. It might be fun having it all to myself.

Not the real Tomato, no. But I was active concurrently with Tomato back in 2019. At that time my work was routinely mistaken for Tomato’s. Occasionally Tomato would appear and take credit for something I had written. That’s the highest honor a troll can receive. I cherish those memories.
