The Academy did not comment on the reported decision or choices

So she got the stats slightly skewed but was she wrong that Latinas make the least out of the four groups? It was a throwaway sentence and Black women weren’t even at the center of her point. Her overall point was that Latinas make the least.

American Latinos are NO WHERE as included as the African American community is in film/tv.

“I get so petrified in this space talking about equal pay. Especially when you look at the intersectional aspect of it. Where white women get paid more than black women. Black women get paid more than Asian women. And Asian women get paid more than Latina women.

Yes she was. The entire roundtable discussion that sparked her comments was about pay disparities in Hollywood, not the general population. That stat does not apply to entertainment industry, since there is no data from it. That’s why there was backlash in the first place.

The stats aren’t necessarily wrong, but she is wrong for applying them to an industry which hasn’t been measured. Statistics 101: You cannot generalize a sample to the population.

what’s wrong with advocating for Latino representation as well?

No one is ignoring or even saying she’s wrong about the under-representation of Latinxs in the entertainment industry. What people are objecting to, is her tendency to step on Black people on her way to that point, (including the Afro-Latinas she erases and excludes) all the while ignoring the white people who control

That’s considered dark in the Latino community and he most definitely would be called out on.

Well that’s the thing, it’s hard to draw trends from an industry that is so fickle. One of the reasons why it’s so hard to measure is because very few people are successful enough to maintain it as a long-term career.

There is a disparity, sure, but it doesn’t apply to the entertainment industry, because there are too many variables that determine an actor’s pay, and acting work isn’t stable enough across the board to allow for an accurate measurement. Also, that statistic doesn’t account for women who identify as both Latinx and a

There isn’t one, largely because there are significantly fewer actors or color, which makes it a hard thing to measure. Plus, actors of color don’t get as many jobs and aren’t afforded the same kinds of opportunities/roles as their white counterparts (“pay gap” implies they have jobs to be paid for). Not to mention,

There’s even more people over there saying it “wasn’t good” or “ good, but not oscar-worthy,despite them admittedly enjoying it enough to see it more than once. There’s no set criteria for what makes a film “oscar-worthy,” not every film can be an obscure period piece.

Coogler and MBJ should’ve also been nominated for Creed, so this is the third outright snub in a row for those two.

This might’ve meant something, if she hadn’t already cancelled this herself. Besides that, these trips are usually done in secret for security reasons (which is especially important as Pelosi is after Pence in the line of succession), so publicly outing her itinerary only helps bolster those rumors that he’s a Russian

Yep. McConnell walked right into her trap. The House has passed like 6 bills to re-open the government, yet he refuses to put it on them on the floor for a vote. He’s losing support with many Republican senators, especially those that will be vulnerable in the election next year. The longer this goes on the greater it
