Interestingly, Pino says that some people blame these declines, particularly endurance, on age, but the reality is that a person’s VO2 does not change dramatically with age.

I started hiking and hill running on steep trails and stairs almost ten years ago. Love it and always want to go. Works in almost all weather conditions.

If you hate running, try something else. I’m not a huge fan of running either, but I found that I love hiking on steep trails and hill running. I still get a cardio workout, but I’m not bored to tears while doing it.

I’ve worn these when running and hiking for years. They look goofy and they’re not for everyone but they’ve done wonders for my running form.

A large turbofan like the GE90 produces most of its thrust in the fan anyway. ;)

I agree with you. However modern turbofans produce the majority of thrust in the fan. ;)

The difference is shrinking with new technologies. Most turboprops do produce some (very little) forward thrust from the gas generator. However as you say most energy is used to drive the propeller.

This....

The easiest and cheapest way to get into espresso is an inexpensive stovetop “machinetta” like this one. Fill with water up to the safety valve. (Unless your tap water is quite good, I recommend distilled or filtered water.) Fill the filter with ground espresso coffee (not drip coffee) and tamp down slightly (requires

In my admittedly anecdotal experience, espresso is much more kind to the stomach. Perhaps this has to do with brewing done by steam at high pressure instead of drip?

Well, if we’re going to nitpick (and I do love these discussions so bear with me), the C-130 is a turbine powered aircraft just like the A-10. The powerplant is much closer related to a turbofan/turbojet than it is to a piston engine.

Better coffee might be the solution. For example properly made espresso is not a problem for my stomach, while most drip coffee and badly made espresso is. The swill you get in most “coffee shops” which they call “espresso” tends to be awful. A simple change of water quality and the occasional cleaning of the machine

Fair enough.

What makes you think Jordan is particularly unsafe? Not all countries in the Middle East are like Syria or Iraq.

The Bad: In the epilogue, every astronaut should be dying of cancer. Mars lacks a global geomagnetic field to do more than weakly shelter Watney from cosmic rays, while the crew on the Hermes are even more exposed. Their long stint within the orbit of Venus would up their radiation exposure to between 0.66 and 1

That may be, but an Android phone does not use e-ink. I’ll happily read on my phone or tablet for 10-15 minutes, but it’s not the same as an e-ink reader.

Both of which are basically flatscreens. Very different reading experience compared to Kindle Paperwhite or Nook Glowlight which use e-ink. E-ink screens are completely static until you turn the page, while iPad style screens constantly refresh. Even if you can’t consciously see the flickering, your eye registers it,

The reason choose-your-own-adventure books never replaced traditional novels wasn’t an issue of format. They just weren’t as interesting to most people. The ebook format doesn’t change that.

What kind of eReaders are you using? If you’re using iPad-style screens they can easily give headaches. e-ink on the other hand is much more like paper to the eye.
