Absolutely.
My friend suggested I watch SG-1. I was all, “yeah nah, what?” So skeptical.
I’m glad I listened, pushing through the rather weak first season to the wonders that lay beyond. Love that show.

That kind of fan is the worst.
At first, the Soviets followed suit, strapping parts to Antonov An-124. But even though the Antonov An-124 was the largest cargo transporter in the world it still wasn’t large enough for the Soviet space program.

They also managed to make it the most popular show in history, for years. So I’d cut them some slack.
I get the completionist impulse. I have the same. But I am very happy I managed to shake it. There was quite a bit of dreck in those long shows, no matter how much of a fan you were. ;)
I managed to watch all of Babylon 5, but I don’t think I would do it if I started today. Just the essentials.

The “something is going on somewhere else” story can be very appealing. The 2001 series by Clarke is a good example. Another is Saturn Run by Sandford & Ctein, which posits an alien starship dropping off an object amongst the rings of Saturn, then departing the solar system.

My opinion but I really didn’t mind not knowing. It made the creatures more scary because they were so inscrutable. Like a force of nature.
