She’s a beauty, but not for that price.
Cool, I’m considering getting a used one myself. I’m guessing you’re happy with its overall reliability so far?
At the moment this seems to be, at the very least, up for debate. There are other sources which claim that even in states that get a higher % of power from coal or natural gas, an EV is still cleaner than an efficient ICE.
Just curious, which EV do you drive?
See, I was wondering about the visibility. That sounds like the one downside out of all the accolades I keep hearing about the Volt. Of course, my Nissan Altima seems to have thick pillars, so if they aren’t worse that on a Volt it might be fine.
I’m seriously considering a used Volt as a daily driver sometime in the near future. They are going for great prices considering their overall low mileage (even when cross-shopped with other similar ICE models).
On that note, if anyone is interested, there is some research available that delves into the overall merits of electric grid based-driving vs. standard ICE gas-based driving. Here’s a handful of links on the topic (TLDR version: generally EVs and hybrids contribute significantly less CO2 than ICEs even when the grid…
It is very true that we can believe what we wish to believe, but the pdegraff link you posted leaves many questions and contains no links, sources or references to back up the many claims it makes to the destructiveness of hybrid batteries. Also, on the main page, it’s recommended websites include links to…
I case my other comment doesn’t get approved...
That “polluting battery” thing of hybrids/EVs is kind of a myth, actually. While there is a slight increase in emissions/carbon footprint in the front end of manufacturing a hybrid, the majority of the pollution coming from cars is found in the life/duration of fuel burning, which is higher with traditional ICE…
Well, I’m interested. Depending on what the price actually is (assuming dealers around here don’t bump it up from MSRP) I would definitely take a look.
1st: (somewhat related) - What is the likelihood of VW opening up sales of their eGolf to markets outside of CAFE states? IMO, that would be step in the right direction in the wake of this scandal.
Check out the forums on mynissanleaf.com if you are interested in detailed specs and user/owner experiences and data. It’s a valuable resource for exploring the option of Leaf ownership.
I’m all about getting a used Leaf sometime in the near future. At the prices they are selling at with such low mileage and low usage by the leasers (prior owners), they make great sense for folks who are looking for a clean daily driver for short commutes. The battery degradation issue really is not such a big deal…
Can one of VW’s fixes be to allow the e-Golf to be sold in all states or at least sold in more markets than it is currently? Only a handful of states offer them at the moment. I’m in NC and the closest dealers offering e-Golfs are in Maryland. Any chance that could happen?
Personally, I think Fiat nailed it, and I usually don’t give a crap about roadsters.
Guys, I can’t stress enough just how much I am enjoying this coverage of the whole debacle. Great stuff.
Me too. Loving this coverage.
