The government pretty much paved the way for this to happen when they canned any further manned-missions into space. Human curiosity cannot be satisfied by remote images and robot-controlled expeditions - we have to be there, see it for ourselves.

Why are they putting giant robots in Team Fortress 3?

I would totally buy one of these for my toolkit. Even if it doesn't work as well as a regular screwdriver.

"But for the time being, Verizon appears to be stuck with this slightly more primitive setup - one that may soon prove to come in very, very handy."

@Christopher Cox: Great, they've got their own definitions that they go by. Problem is, these are not the commonly accepted definitions that the rest of the world understands. So either they need to put some effort into making sure they are correctly understood (either to the general populace, or to the media that

@NotGodot: Perhaps that's the best way for them to continue on. But I for one would be really sad to see all of that legacy essentially shoved into a closet and forgotten.

I watched this semi-recently and found myself with similar feelings - that it was fun, but not quite what I'd built it up to be in my mind.

Maybe since they no longer have a viable plan for a manned-space program they felt they had to justify their continued existence in another way.

@AlphaJarmel: Agreed. I just re-watched it on Netflix the other night. Forgot how much I liked it.

@genesic: Okay, so it only interacts on a 2-D plane. How much harder would it be to simply say that than the rather misleading "2D object!"

So...I understand that the OS plays an essential role in how quickly this stuff happens. But the OS itself stands on the shoulders of the hardware. You could have the world's fastest OS, and it'll load everything slowly if it's on the wrong hardware. Likewise, even a crappy OS can load things relatively quickly if

@e30 guy: Die Hard + shoes - Gruber = Dredd, it sounds like.

No one has yet explained to me how this can possibly be a two-dimensional material. It has length, width, and height. Granted, the height is insanely small, at just one atom high, but it's still there.

@aeiluindae: I worked for a company that, on top of selling cell phones, was also a computer repair shop and ISP. The name of the company started with Active, so they thought it would be clever to have their ISP domain (the one that all of their customers used) be @ctive.com. Certainly clever, but it was a little

@Doctor Pika of Chu: Sadly, I know some kids exactly like this. No experience whatsoever, but they claim abilities and hacks to their credit anyway.

Seriously? Enough people used it that they wanted to save it?

@Fauxcused: I think his nose is a little narrow, but I can see it.

Is it just me, or does that guy look like a very young George Burns?

@MrGOH: For a second I thought you actually meant Colm Meaney. Then I watched it and was sad.
